A glorious trip to the Steamboat Springs area had only one hiccup--the Sweetwater Grill. A hostess seated us on the sunny patio as we requested, then hollered to some guy to get the umbrella up for shade. He disappeared. When the waitress came I had to ask her to do it, the obvious was not offered. Our food was taking a long time and she finally came to explain that, well, it was the pizza for our 5-year old daughter. "They forgot to turn the oven on." REALLY?? At 1 p.m. on a brunch/lunch Sunday with the rest of the patio filled already the oven was not ON?? So, she brought us a seared tuna appetizer as a consolation prize. Doesn't every hungry 5-year old want a platter of raw fish with candied seaweed and hot sauce? Not mine! When the pizza arrived it was disgusting--and hard to fathom how a thin smear of jarred marinara sauce on bread with grated mozzarella barely melted held up the kitchen. I've made better frozen pizza in a toaster oven. My spinach salad with Colorado peaches included very, very thinly sliced peaches that were likely from anywhere but Colorado--in peach season, no less!--was lame. My husband's cheeseburger was like a warmed frozen patty. Considering the obvious expense put into the decor--nice bathrooms!--it's a shame this incredible location is such a waste.

We were looking for an late afternoon early evening meal this past weekend when strolling around Steamboat. We stopped by the Sweetwater Grill and were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who seated us right away - it was about 3 pm and only a couple of other diners were on the patio. Fantastic patio! Our server came right away to take our drink order and fortunately we were there for the Sweetwater's happy hour, half off all drinks. This restaurant offers a nice option for lighter eaters. They have several options of small plates that our server told us changes daily. My huaband and I were starved so we opted for a ceasar salad to start. These were on the small plates menu option. We each received a small bowl of salad for just $2 each. The salads were served in well chilled bowls and we thought the dressing was good. Slightly different than traditional ceasar with a slightly mustard taste, but very tasty. I ordered one of the small plates for my meal as well, a couple of street tacos. Small, but filled with a generous portion of chopped chicken, cilantro and red onion on soft corn tortillas. The tacos were served with a lime wedge and were really good. My husband had the meatball sandwich. The meatballs were a really tasty combo of elk, buffalo and beef. Served up with marinara on a really nice crisp french bread bun. Also served were delicious waffle frys. For dessert we tried a Colorado Grilled peach served with a nice helping of very yummy vanilla bean ice-cream. It was not a huge portion, but plenty for two to share. The peach was warm and the icecream melted nicely on it. We had a great time, and definitely enjoyed a super meal for a price that one would normally pay for breakfast. We loved this place, had a great experience and will be back! Thank you!

We went to Sweetwater for lunch this weekend while visiting friends who live in Steamboat. I love patio dining and this restaurant has one of the best patios around. We sat and sipped on mojitos while waiting for our table. We had five adults and a one-year-old. This place is great for families because there's a large grassy lot next door that belongs to the restaurant. Kiddos can play on the swing or with the variety of toys available there.

My husband had a burger and fries. He thought the burger was average, but the waffle fries were AMAZING! I kept stealing fries from his plate. I had the chicken sandwich with green chili goat cheese and a side salad. The salad was just lettuce and carrots (boring), but the chicken sandwich was delish. I'd definitely get it again with the fries instead of the salad.

The prices for lunch items are all under $10, which is a good deal for Steamboat.

We would definitely go back to Sweetwater for lunch. Dinner was more expensive and there weren't very many options.

Note: The bar inside is retro chic. Loved it!

Ceasar salad was bland and the grilled chicken on top was literally ice cold. The dressing didn't even have a hint of garlic, lemon or anchovy. Nearly inedible. The Mahi Mahi tacos were well seasoned, but had a slightly fishy taste. The tortillas were stale and fell apart immediately. The rice and beans on the plate were clearly an afterthought, and offered nothing to the meal other than mass. The service was mediocre. We had to wait for at least five minutes at the host stand before anyone came by to seat us, even on a slow night. The outdoor deck is nicely located and appointed, but the restaurant itself feels like a hotel lobby.
