“Sweetwater Grill is a friendly, family oriented restaurant on the banks of the Yampa River.”
Reviewed August 9, 2010

We were greeted by a friendly hostess who sat us within a few minutes. The atmosphere was lively with live music in the lounge yet the dining area was quiet and filled primarily with families.
The server was friendly and competent. Our dishes were cleared quickly upon finishing.
Our table was next to the large window which looks out onto the Yampa River. It was beautiful. We did note that the ceiling lighting in the diningroom seemed to be florescent which didn't seem to go with the warm and stylish downward lighting over the booth tables.
The food was good. But, we couldn't find the crisp in the Strawberry Rubarb Crisp..
We would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for great value, good cooking and a friendly family atmosphere

“Great atmosphere”
Reviewed August 4, 2010

We stopped here for lunch and were able to enjoy a great view of the river with our food. There was also a great jazz band playing on the patio, and they gave us some champagne to toast as congratulations for our wedding earlier that day. I would recommend it for someplace to go and hang out!

“Give it a Miss. Extremely Disappointing.”
Reviewed July 31, 2010

Hopefully, this brand new restaurant will get a new chef and menu as all it has going for it is ambiance and even that is "iffy", depending on your age and taste. It has a nice deck and fire pit but they definitely went for a decor that is seeming to attract the 20 something crowd or trying to be ultra modern. I was surprised to see how many 20-30 year olds were out on a Friday night, given that the drinks were some of the worst we've ever had and not bargain prices. I had hoped to see them pour as there is no way our watered down cocktails had a full shot. Also, it seemed the design focus was on the bar in terms of space and style and yet they couldn't prepare a pear martini nor even had a drink menu or "specialty drinks", which is common these days in any upscale "bar".

The BBQ Corn Soup is not a "soup" and one of the worst appetizers we've ever had. It's closer to a bisque and while they advise it is spicy, which it is, the spice doesn't compliment anything but rather seems to be solely to provide a burning sensation to the palette.

The menu is basic and simple and the immediate reaction and thought was it doesn't go with the decor. The interior is close to what one could find in LAX or NYC - a bit upscale or trendy. When you open the menu, you find simple bar food, so much so that I thought I had been accidentally given a "bar menu". Steamboat already has plenty of nice bar/restaurants and all are significantly better. For instance, go two doors down to Boathouse Pub.

As a local and given that Steamboat has MANY affluent guests who come throughout the year, we did NOT need a cookie cutter restaurant to play it ultra safe. It would have been really nice to have ethnicity, variety, or a menu with some originality, particularly given the effort put forth in the design.

“Really Disappointed”
Reviewed July 29, 2010

I have been waiting a long time and have been very excited about the concept of this restaurant unfortunately I feel they fell short on the delivery. I thought long and hard about writing this and at the end of the day I feel they should know. First let me start by saying I have been in the hospitality industry a long time and have worked in many restaurants and this review is not based on one visit I did go back a second time. The decor and atmosphere are fantastic you can tell they put a great deal of thought and money into that.

Now for the hard part.......I feel that with the location and everything else it could be something amazing instead it is just like all the other bar/restaurants in this town. The menu has no wow factor i can get a burger/ chicken sandwich anywhere. This town was craving something different and instead we got more of the same. And to top it off our chicken was dry and flavorless, the waffle fries were good. Would have liked to try the onion rings but for some reason on the menu but not for order...........Why not reprint the menu? The food and service is mediocre at best and I feel drinks/food are overpriced 4.50 for tap beer and 13.50 for a salad add chicken. May go back to hang by river and have drink but would not eat the food. It is just such a bummer was hoping for something different and fantastic and this was not it.

Sorry you were disapointed. We knew that we were opening in our busiest season so had to keep the menu small and easily producable. We are curently serving between 450-650 meals per day in our third week of being open and doing it well. We'll be constantly improving. As the summer season winds down we intend to add to the menu (we have reprinted the menu without the onion rings which never met the chefs high standards) with new and creative items. Also, we plan to do special dinners and fun events throughout the Fall. I look forward to wowing you in the future. Sincerely, Joe Walker - GM

“Good Job!”

Our party of six was very impressed with this place. The ambience is great - just on the river. Most importantly, the food was wonderful from beginning to end. We all enjoyed every app, salad, entree and dessert.
