“Great for our purposes”

A friend and I stayed in the Dutch Hill campsite for one night (tent only). While perhaps not conducive to staying a long time, we really enjoyed the time we were there. There aren't many trees, and the campsites were not very private; however, the views are amazing and well worth it. We were nestled near the river and located fairly close to the store, swim beach, and marina. Tent pads are provided, which made sleeping much more pleasant as we didn't need to avoid any rocks or bumps in the ground. Picnic tables and a fire pit are provided, although you must purchase your firewood in Hahn's Peak or in the park (as we were only around one night in June, we eschewed a fire and did just fine).

The price was reasonable, at $18 a night (plus a $10 booking fee and $6/day vehicle pass) and cheaper than any other lodging we could find. Staff is friendly and helpful. With the exception of (what looked like) a late-night accident by one of the younger residents of our campsite, bathrooms are remarkably clean and well-maintained. My friend and I went as part of a 3-day road trip and left very satisfied. We recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation.

Room Tip: Dutch Hill campsite is the way to go-- it's more accessible than Sunrise Vista. If you have a b...

We could see why this would have been one of Colorado's premier state parks and campgrounds, but unfortunately, so many trees have been cut down. We stayed on Bridge Island (tent only), and you could see all the tree stumps. But basically it is tree-less now. Because all of the tent sites are out in the open, there is little to no privacy and it can get very, very windy, and when it's not windy, very hot. That said, we still had fun. The marina area is small and friendly, and we rented paddle boats. If you have your own boats, you can go right up to your campsite. A lot of people were water skiing and that looked like a blast. Steamboat Springs, of course, is a wonderful place to visit nearby (30 minute drive). A fun place, but just don't expect a tent site nestled in the trees. You will definitely be out in the open and most all of the trees are gone. Pearl Lake, nearby, is undergoing a lot of tree removal, also, so there are a lot of downed trees and equipment. It looks like it also used to be an amazing place. No marina, though, but much quieter and the campsites themselves still have a lot of trees.

we love this campground and park. we stayed here back in '07 and we'd go back every year. last year it's been closed d/t lodgepole pine tree cleanup. we stayed on bridge island in site 193. it was right next to the lake which u can access right from your campsite. u also have a view of the marina from there. sites are very well spaced out from one another. the only drawback is the walk to the parking lot with all your camping stuff- since there are only tent-only sites in this area of the island. there is only one vault toilet and 2 water spigots for the 21 sites. you can canoe right onto the lake from our site as well as other lakefront sites. there are showers available by the marina which you have to drive to. they're coin-operated. there is also a store nearby where u can rent kayaks from.

i highly recommend this part of the campground. i've stayed at the anica loop but they are not next to the lake. we had to hike down a hill to get to the lake from this loop.

bring your bikes since there are trails. people jetski, boat here as well.
