Steamboat is a destination resort, its a 3-3.5 hour drive from Denver, you can also fly into Hayden but that is pricey. If you do fly into Hayden you don't really need a rental car as free transit system is wicked efficient and convenient. The only deal you're going to get on lift tickets is the advance purchase though the mountains own website so don't waste time chasing a discount and Steamboat is worth it. There is so much terrain and so many options for all levels of ability. The staff is everywhere and is always willing to answer any questions. The town has changed dramatically since we were here 25 years ago, this uniquely cowboy town has grown up in a really responsible way. All of the amenties are here from dining to groceries to every modern conveneince you'd find at home and prices are reasonable. The growth has been tastefully done and the town has maintained it's friendly, rustic appeal. The snow always seems to be more abundant here than the front range resorts, we skied Vail a month ago and there is definitley more snow here. We are so glad we chose Steamboat for our family ski vacation this year, it was everything we wanted and we will be back again soon.

Love this mountain. Never too crowded, lots of lifts and long runs. Good for all levels of skiers. You can ski the entire day without going on the same run twice, but some are better than others.

Tree skiing---fantastic----off Pony and Morningside (can make your trip). Slope skiing-great and varied, had some issues w/ice until we got a few dumps .Like all CO resorts they needed snow and got some while we were there and it was great. Lifts where very good-didn't like gondola, to long of a wait to enter(only rode once in 4 days + a little out of the way for us) A very scenic, if out of way (keeps some crowds away) mountain.

What a great resort. Lifts are fast and efficient. Heaps of signage and great long runs. The runs go forever. A daily newsletter tells you what runs have been groomed and activities on the mountain. The mogul lesson with Nelson Carmichael, olympic medallist was fantastic. Lots to do and see and great snow. Loved it.

We skied over Valentines week and had an excellent time. With new snow everyday (all day) the conditions were fantastic; we didn't even mind the lack of visibility due to the snow. The runs are varied and there are numerous are nice and long. Everyone we met from Steamboat was welcoming and friendly.
