If your looking to visit southern Co you have to stay here. Its on the way to wolf creek ski area (on the same road)! I have stayed at the other hotels in the area and this place is by far better than any of the others. Great rates too!

Hey Lucas!

It was nice to meet you during your recent stay. If we ever get out your way we'll stop in at the restaurant and say Hi. I could really go for a nice round of fresh fajitas!

Take care!

After all of the great reviews, I was a little disappointed. I thought that we would have a room in the main lodge, but we ended up in one of the rooms to the side of the lodge. It was OK, but nothing really special. It was clean enough, decorated kind of cute, but was it was old. That fact is alright with me, but I just expected a little more than what we got. When we arrived, there was no one in the lodge to check us in. After walking around the property and trying to find someone without any luck, I made a call to Hotels.com and they called the owner, Dee. They said that they would call Dee for us. She arrived shortly. and said that she had went to the grocery store. I did have a confirmation from Hotels.com, but Dee said that she did not have us down for a reservation, but fortunately did have a room available. She said that sometimes her e-mails did not come through. If you chose to stay here, my advice would be to call The Spruce Lodge directly to confirm your reservation. This was an inexpensive place to stay, so expect to get what you pay for. As a side note, if you stay in South Fork, be sure to eat at the Silver Fork. Wonderful food!

There's a couple reviews here that say "You get what you pay for."

Why do you make that sound like a bad thing?

We have a variety of room types - 10 to be exact. Some of them are very basic, and super affordable. Some are much nicer and more expensive. I would like to encourage everyone to read the room descriptions very carefully, look at the pictures on our website and call us if you have any questions. If you want a newly renovated Jacuzzi suite in the main building, please reserve one and be prepared to pay the going rate. Please do not reserve what is labeled the "Cheapest room in town, small and basic, not fancy but clean" and expect a suite in the main building.

It's true that the rooms in the Chalet have not been renovated. With the economy the way it is, it doesn't make sense to dump a whole bunch of money into rooms that are kind of neat just the way they are, because we'd have to raise our room rates We've upgraded the mattresses and the tv's and added fridge/microwave combos, but we've left the neat 1950's era tubs and sinks in the front four rooms and the 1970's era showers in the back rooms. Ok -so the showers aren't as cool as the tubs, but again, we don't want to spend a fortune upgrading the "Cheapest rooms in town" because then they couldn't be the cheapest rooms in town anymore and we'd lose a whole segment of the traveling public who LOVE these rooms because they are cheap and clean. Some people just want a place to sleep and shower.

If you want a really nice, updated room please book one of our suites. The Double Queen and King Queen rooms in the Chalet are nice and large with new beds, the Standard Chalet rooms are the "cheapest rooms in town." That's what this guest booked online. PLEASE call us if you have any questions.

THANKS!

We have had our family reunion here for 6 years and wouldn't even think of going anywhere else. Dee and Rob are awsome, they make you feel like your part of their family the minute you walk in the door. They are there to please and do a very good job. The place is clean and comfortable. The renovations were a little of a pain, but can't waite to see the finished product! I worked there before they took the place over, the improvements are amaizing. Love the place and the people who run it. We will see them real soon! You should stay with them and find out just how wonderful it is.

We recently stayed at the Spruce Lodge and had a great time. The owner/operators (Dee and Rob) went out of their way to make my family comfortable. I have young children and the property really was great for them - a big area where they could play. Rooms were being remodeled, which only makes it better for the next time we are guests :)

The owners are very nice and they are in the process of updating their property. The suite rooms in the main lodge are beautifully updated and you will feel fully pampered staying there. The rooms in the out buildings are in need of serious updating. They are very clean, but show their age. The rooms on the first floor of the two story building are very noisy - the residents above were playing ball with their dog at 5:30 am before they departed for the day. In the evening, we could hear their TV and anyone walking around. The separate cabins were likewise clean but showing their age. If you are looking for affordable lodging that is clean and comfortable, then I do recommend the Spruce Lodge. If you want luxury, reserve one of the suites in the lodge (no dogs here to preserve the beautiful floors) or check back as they update the rest of the facility.

Room Tip: The cooks cabin is quiet and set by itself. The suites are first class!

Thank you to Rob and Dee for the lovely time our extended family had this past weekend. This is the 6th year in a row that we have come to the Spruce Lodge. We appreciate the hospitality extended by Rob and Dee. It is fun to stay in a hotel that was built near the time our ancestors came to the Valley. We're looking forward to next year's reunion.

Ok - this is just not cool.

Stan, you didn't even STAY with us! When you cancelled your $1300 reservation less than 24 hours before your scheduled arrival we tried to do the right thing and we decided NOT to charge you the $350 cancellation fee. We waived it even though those cabins and RV sites went empty for the whole week. You didn't hold up your end of the reservation, we waived your fee and then you stick us with a bad review? Shame on you.

Oh - and yes. We were climbing Uncompagre Peak with our kids, elevation 14,309'. We didn't have any scheduled arrivals the day you came by so we took a little hike. I'm sorry we missed you.
