Stayed here for 1 night during our summer trip. Great location in south fork with access to all the sights not far away. Friendly owners. Cozy cabins with awesome decor. I was surprised to learn they were over 100 years old! Awesome value in a great location. Amazing view as well,

Would stay again!

We returned to this area for a short vacation recently after our son's graduation from USAFA. Having lived nearby for many years I knew of these cabins and had looked at them prior to our recent stay. We had three cabins, one for girls, one for boys, and one for my wife and I. The are very cute and cozy yet have all the amenities for cooking and so forth.

Chinook Lodge, though not deep into the hills, is very comfortable and is very convenient to all the fishing spots we knew so well. And given the price as well as the friendliness of the owners and staff, it is an excellent value. We will stay there again.

Mark E.

Room Tip: Some cabins have bigger kitchens than others.

We just stayed two nights here in "grandmas cottage". We love our trips to Colorado and love staying in cozy cabins while in Southfork and Pagosa Springs! Our cabin at Chinook was perfect! The owners couldn't have been any nicer and Mazey, the host dog is a sweetheart! The cabin was clean, full kitchen was stocked with dishes, pots, pans...everything we needed. Our only complaint was the mattress was uncomfortable on the bed. We didn't sleep well. We did tell the owners at checkout time about the mattress and they were going to check it out. We will back, had a great time, y'all were very accommodating! Thank you.

Rebecca,

Thank you for your nice review and we do appreciate when our guest let us know about any problems or concerns. We are in the process of updating several of our full beds with queen beds. We will include this cabin in our plans and replace this queen set as well.

Again thank you for your comments and hope to see you again.

We stayed here over Christmas to ski at Wolf Creek. It was great to have a kitchen and be able to bring our dog, and the hosts were nice and accommodating. The one big drawback was it was super cold. We had an industrial heater, but it really only worked for the main room -- the bathroom was freezing (as in, my shampoo thickened to the consistency of hair gel.) We have stayed in backcountry huts before and are kind of used to it -- but not exactly what we thought we were signing up for. We tried lighting a fire in the fireplace but there was no flu and it just filled the room with smoke. We were paying holiday rates and it seemed a bit high for what it was. Otherwise a good base camp for exploring a great area.

We are very sorry that you were cold during your stay. If you had let us know there was a problem we could have helped you out. We have small electric heaters we could have given you to help warm up the cabin. Most people have told us the cabins are very warm. There has been however, a few number of people who have asked for an electric heater. We have never had trouble with the bathroom freezing before: the bathroom door must be left open when not in use in order for it to be heated (We should have specified this to you). However, if we do not know there is a problem when you are here, we cannot do anything to fix it.

There are specific directions in each of the cabin in the pamphlets on the correct way to build a fire. (these pamphlets are usually on the kitchen table). We generally stress these directions to people when they buy firewood . There have been manyh fires built in theses fireplaces, but they can smoke you out if directions are not followed.

We do appreciate your comments: we can only make improvements when we know what needs to be improved upon.

Again we apologize for your inconvenience.

Stayed here a couple of weeks ago, and was really impressed. Stayed in the Americana Cabin. Everything was set up with the red, white and blue motif. Really cute. Cabin had a kitchen, bedroom/living area with 2 beds - (TV, fireplace, heater, dressers, etc.) and a small cute little bathroom. Beds were comfortable - kitchen utensils - dishes - etc. was provided.

The only little complaint was the shower was very dark. They need a overhead light and lighter shower curtains. But that was no big deal...

A grill and picnic table was outside, but we didn't partake.

The hot tub was great after a long day of driving all over the mountains.

They also have a "Smokehouse" that is open from 11 to 2 for lunch. It looked good, but we didn't partake. Preferred to use the kitchen, etc. instead.

All in all, highly recommend staying here. Very reasonable in price also...

We recently stayed in the Victorian Rose cabin. It is a very comfortable and spacious cabin with all the amenities we needed to make our stay enjoyable. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating to our needs as we had our three young children with us. We only stayed one night, but had we planned better, we would have stayed longer in this charming cabin near the sounds of the rushing river nearby. We also high recommend the sandwich lunch that our hosts have right on the cabin grounds. What a great vacation!

We recently spent 3 nights at the Chinook Lodge in the very clean/comfortable Fisherman's Cabin. We really enjoyed our stay here. The cabin had everything needed --2 comfortable queen beds; a futon, table, chairs/benches and small kitchenette in another room and a small bathroom with a shower (no tub); stool and a sink outside the bathroom. Unlike other cabins we have stayed in, we really appreciated the instant "hot water" on cold nights when washing hands; showering. (Had adequate heating...but I like to keep rooms on the cool side.) Small fridge, sink, microwave, toaster and stove top in the kitchen (and came equipped with dishes, pots and pans, eating utensils, etc.) Had a yard swing which we relaxed in and enjoyed the moutain views from. Near the pretty Rio Grande River (which we had hoped to fish in, but it was a bit too early in the season for it...so we drove up to the Rio Grande Reservoir instead to fish.) The only "con" I can think of is that it sits next to a fairly busy road and the traffic could be heard, but it wasn't too bad at the all-important bed-time. The drive up to Crede was pretty - but the drive to Pagosa Springs from South Fork was absolutely beautiful! We had been around the area before, but missed driving that particular section. The owners were very nice...for us, this was a much better option than chain hotels elsewhere. Enjoyed, would recommend and would stay again if we are in the area.
