I've been to this establishment beginning of august this year (2008) and the service was terrible, the server was rude and the manager wasn't around when I asked for one. I understand it is not a fine dining restaurant but when u r not even noticed by anyone for over 20 minutes something must be wrong. I'm never going back there again and I'll make sure to tell that to everyone I know!!!

Being an Aspen native, there is a certain expectation amongst the restaurant goers of our fair city. Pitkin County has some very high end restaurants that command national attention and others that are just sustenence. I stumbled upon the Big Hoss Grill on a recent trip to the Village to meet some friends who had flown in from out of town. The restaurant was warm and casual, this is to say, unusual for Pitkin County. It wasn't just sustenence though, the food would hold it's own in the back country of Texas or the hustling streets of Memphis. I had a full order of ribs that were as tender as they could be without being over cooked, they were soaked in a rich and tangy sauce that was the best I've ever had! The beans had a rich smokey flavor that was complimented by a bit of spice, just right, and the slaw was crisp and fresh. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered the brisket plate to go so I could try that later, equally amazing! The appearance of the restaurant is very comfortable, it doesn't require a dress or suit and tie, it's a come as you are, stay as long as you want restaurant, very rare for the area. I came to find out that it is a very popular spot for the Snowmass yokels and rightfully so. The price is ridiculous for the Village and the food is equally ridiculous, it's the best value in a 100 mile radius and arguably the best value in the state for the quality. If you're within 50 miles of snowmass, it's worth the trip, the happy hour is unbeatable too! I make the trip twice a week now and will as long as they are there.

My husband and I enjoyed our experience at Big Hoss. It is a small place so the flow gets a little backed up, but we enjoyed a cold beer, some BBQ and curly fries. The service was friendly and the food hit the spot. It wasn't extravagant but a nice break from the slopes and a good meal for about $35

The only positive comment that I can offer regarding this "dining establishment" is that the facility has multiple televisions which attempt to distract you from the inedible substances offered for your consumption. We visited this place because of an advertisement which claimed that they offered "award winning barbeque." I cannot imagine any group offering praise of this establishment, except perhaps the National Association of Bulimics. The "house speciality" was their ribs. The aroma that emanated from my serving of boiled pork ribs drizzled with sauce defies description. Well, I have never smelled a 4 day old cadaver on a hot sunny day, but I imagine it is akin to this dish. Never, I repeat never visit this place. I would write more but my stomach is hurting too badly...
