Stonebridge Inn, A Destination Hotel
Ranked #2 of 13 Hotels in Snowmass Village
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 31, 2012

Let's start with the positives. Snowmass is a fabulous place to ski. Stonebridge is well located - not quite ski in ski out but less than 5 minutes walk to the slopes. The room was a good size, very clean, warm, with a comfortable bed. Some updating has clearly taken place so we had a large flat screen TV with about 100 channels, a DVD player and an iPod compatible alarm clock.

The decor is very dated - think 1970's beige and the net curtains block out a lot of light. The bathroom is very small. There is no safe in the room which is very inconvenient given the number of valuables many visitors carry - I didn't want to take my iPad, jewellery, etc to the front desk daily whilst I was out skiing. There is no boot room at the entrance resulting in guests traipsing through the hotel in ski boots, so no surprise that the carpets were designed to hide marks. Only one small and cranky lift which caused bottle necks at busy times when everyone is trying to get to and from the slopes.

On the positive side there is a very pleasant and modern hot tub and gym facility - the decor and fittings here are obviously more up to date than the rest of the hotel.

The lobby is attractive and the bar could be pleasant but is ruined by the freezing cold drafts as the front door is held open. Fitting an additional door inside would make a huge difference. We were very cold on the only night we sat at the bar and did not return.

What really lets the hotel down is the poor quality of the breakfast and dining experience. The breakfast experience was shambolic. We had paid for inclusive breakfast in advance but skipped it several mornings. Staff are very slow to clear tables leading to a wait to be seated, not ideal when you need to get to lessons, etc. A number of staff were very pleasant but others were surly and not competent. It would be better to focus on clearing tables and ensuring sufficient cutlery and plates than floating around aimlessly with coffee which was available for self service anyway.
We ate in the restaurant on Christmas Day evening. The food was expensive and very unexceptional - overcooked chicken. The waitress knocked over both individual bottles of Prosecco spilling a quantity (in front of us) and then simply poured the remainder into glasses - no apology or offer to bring a fresh bottle. My starter was removed whilst I was still eating as she had brought the entree across too early. This is one of the worst serving experiences I have ever had. Less 'Artisan' and more amateur.
Last but not least we found the concierge staff on the front desk to be somewhat offhand. To be fair, we were able to use advertised resources, e.g. Hotel shuttle but the attitude was 'the bus will come when it will come'. No one offered to help with bags when we arrived at 10 pm (only guests) after a long journey.

I guess you get what you pay for but we certainly don't believe this hotel meets 4* standards, more an average and dated 3*.

SnowmassGM, General Manager at Stonebridge Inn, A Destination Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded January 4, 2013

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I am sorry to hear that your experiences at The Artisan restaurant were not as exceptional as we strive to provide. I immediately shared your comments with our Food & Beverage Manager and our servers in order to provide additional training so that in the future all guests will experience the exceptional level of service our guests have come to expect. This winter our Executive Chef introduced a new menu that has been thus far well received by our return guests, but obviously we failed to deliver during your stay.
I am also sorry that our guest service staff was not able to respond appropriately to your inquiries and have talked with the front desk manager about methods to improve this based upon your comments. Additionally, our guest service staff are responsible for transporting our guests around the village and unfortunately there are times when they are not available to help our guests upon arrival, however when this occurs we need to ensure other staff members assist by offering to help guests with their luggage.

With regards to your comments speaking to the “dated” rooms, we are in the process of remodeling and improving The Stonebridge Inn as a whole starting with the public areas, such as the lobby which was recently updated, to the individual guest rooms where recent capital improvements have included new bedding, flat screen TVs and DVD players. However, we are in the final stages of our latest renovation and still do have a few rooms that have not been fully renovated. We are working with the owners to assist them with needed renovations in time for the next season.

I hope that your travels bring you back to Snowmass Village, and if so, that you would consider staying at The Stonebridge Inn again so that we can provide you with the level of service I know we typically provide. I would be happy to personally book your accommodations if you decide to give us another opportunity to host you again. Thanks again for taking the time to provide your feedback. It is greatly appreciated. I can assure you that we will address your comments so that we can continually improve our service.

OMG!... This hotel is beyond amazing... I flew in all the way from the Caribbean, and let me tell you .. this hotel is by far the most friendly, clean comfy place I have ever been to.
The staff is VERY friendly.. esp the bartender.

My recommendation.. take the suite.. in the rooms are 40 inch ( well looks that way to me) flat screen tv's in the living room.. and in the bedroom it's the same thing.. bathroom, nice hot water very spacious!.they also had a humidifer, and 2 fans.. we didn't need the fans cause it was EXTREMELY cold.. .. it's just like Hyatt, except cheaper.
The bed was really soft and nice, you can fit at least 3 people on that bed.We got a balcony which was very wide.. looking over the restaurant and the pool etc with some obstructed views.. but hey it was snowing.. all we wanted to do was look down at the snow.. lol .. it was like a winter wonderland.

The shampoo and conditioner also the lotion ...excellent amount for a 5 day stay.. don't even need to bring your own (complimentary of course:)
The food is really good.. the breakfast ( to die for). There is a buffet which isn't bad at all for the price.

The drivers are really friendly I must say.. they give complimentary shuttle services to the mall up the hill.. and to the airport.
Well done Stonebridge Inn.. I give you a 5/5

I would 100 % recommend this place,and I will be back soon!!!!

I stayed here for 3 nights and found the place to be lovely. The bed was ridiculously comfortable, the view was fantastic, and the staff was exceptional. My only complaint was the lack of adequate meeting space for our conference. Other than that it was perfect. The humidifier in the room was a plus as were windows that open to let in the fresh mountain air and the super comfy duvets. Loved it!

My friend and I stayed here during the Jazz Aspen festival over labor day weekend. Stonebridge had the shuttle stop right in front of the hotel and walking distance to the mall (even though it it a fierce uphill). It was also nice that since it's wasn't high season we can park in the lots right in front for free. They had us at the end of a hallway so it was pretty quiet for our entire stay. The room we has was comfortable and decent, and i will definitely stay here again.

We were picking hotels on our road trip (which lasted 7 days through 6 states - by vicinity to local attractions. This one we picked only for a price. Lucky we !! Room was crowded with accessories for comfort staying, mountain view was great, hotel bar is very cosy, open pool very tempting, etc...We were so sad that we had to leave it after only one night. And very last thing - staff is extremely polite ! It was best value for price on whole vacation...
