Once again found out about this place by chance via tripadvisor.

DOWNSIDE......is it is so new it was really hard to find (we asked people and no one had heard of it). Finally got through to someone and even directions into the parking lot area were hard to figure out. We had to find the Snowmass Hospitality Office which owns/runs this hotel/condo along with several others). It was 6pm and the guy was about ready to leave for the night (he had two other reservations on the desk so I felt sorry for those people). We had come in to town from an all day drive from Telluride so if he was not there and we did not get the hotel then I have to tell you that this review would be different but.......

Since we got lucky and found the office and someone to give us a key.....

This place was really nice. Brand new of course. The Kitchen and appliances were beautiful. The room and decor was very nice. We only had a one bedroom but that was OK since the kids slept on the pull out couch. We felt that there was NO ONE THERE. We saw only two other lights/couples the entire 2 day stay. We were in building 1 and took the short cat walk over to building 2 to use the fitness room, pool table area and hot tub. They also gave us free access to the Snowmass Country Club (forgot the name). Even though we had to drive there that was a nice place.

In general we visited June 19 - 21 and Snowmass was DEAD. I mean barely anyone was there. We still thought it was a very nice place and the cost of staying there was so much less then staying in Aspen (we did not have a choice since most of Aspen was booked up for their annual Food and Wine Event). My kids thought it was so cool having the place to ourselves.

Bottom Line: Snowmass looks like a ski resort with ski runs made for families (especially young kids). Remember we went in the summer but checked out the runs/maps and there is a lot of green runs and programs just for young kids. There is a Kids Treehouse Camp place right next to the base of the slope. We will definitely go back to Snowmass one winter if we want to ever teach the kids to ski. If you want to visit/experience Aspen I would NOT recommend staying in Snowmass. It is easily a 15-20 minute ride to Aspen (compare to a place like Telluride where Mountain Village is just as far away but has a connecting free Gondola that runs down to Telluride and is really cool).

Capitol Peak is in a new development that still is under construction. The units are new and in top condition. I have never stayed in a condo with a kitchen as well equipped with high end appliances, pots and pans, wine glasses. I am a gourmet cook and was impressed to even find things like a wisk. Cuisinart cookwear, GE profile appliances. If you want to cook while you are here, this is a great place to stay.

The beds are very comfortable. It even has a washer and dryer.

There is free Intenet access. No workspace, but there is ample room on the dining table which is where the Internet connection is located.

There is not a lot of drawer space in the bedroom, although the closets were ample. The bedroom is quite small.

There is a small exercise room and a couple of hot tubs but no pool. However, they provide free access to the Snowmass Club and Lodge with a fabulous workout facility and several swimming pools.

I did their virtual tour before booking. YOu need to be aware that there are various room configurations. I was expecting a separate shower and tub but in our unit they were combined. We also thought the bathroom was adjacent to the bedroom but it was located near the kitchen. Neither were problems for us but if you want a separate shower, you should request it.

Overall the furniture is adequate. The dining table was a bit awkward--very heavy chairs that are too low for the table. But this is getting pickey. There are two flat screen TVs, but the one in the bedroom is not on cable so you can't get all of the channels on it. There is an I-pod docking station and CD player but no DVD player. Overall however, the condo is very comfortable and very well equipped.

We were concerned about construction noise, but found the units to be very quiet. We faced the road and it was no problem at all.

I decided to book direct through the hotel and if I did it again I would book through the Aspen/Snowmass resort association. I paid $100 more for various "amenities." We were supposed to have flowers and a welcome basket on arrival. I had to ask for both. That being said, the staff were very accommodating and quick to respond to all our needs.

The biggest drawback was the parking garage. It's a multi-story garage and you have to go up a steep and winding driveway to get to the parking spaces which are quite narrow. There were very few people staying while we were here so it wasn't a problem. However, when it is built out and the garage is full, it might be more difficult.

The units are located close to the supermarket and about 1/2 mile from the top of the village. You can walk to both although the walk to the village is uphill.

We paid $209 (plus tax) per night during the summer. We imagine their rates will go up later. We considered it very good value for the quality of the units.

We would definitely recommend this condo.
