We planned to drive longer, but after driving thru one storm cell with tornado warnings and being warned to take cover before we hit the second storm cell ahead with more tornado warnings, we found this B&B off the highway. What better place to stay when there are tornado warnings then a building with a concrete bank vault in the basement!! Well, by the time we arrived, there were no more tornado warnings, so we just went into the vault turned mini-museum as part of a tour of this large, former bank building.

The entire stay was a unique adventure! We had our choice of rooms, and with my hubby being 6'6" - only one of the vintage beds (new comfy mattress on ours however) had an iron footboard level with the mattress. And, a bit disappointed that there were no queen beds. The 2 bathrooms left much to be desired, but retain the character of this former bank building - and since no other guests were staying this Sunday night, we could use either. Very little water pressure in the vintage sinks. It really was a vintage location all around, like a walk back in time.

The owner, Lupe, was great. We enjoyed visiting, and she had leftovers from her Sunday dinner which my husband was happy to reheat a large plate of complementary mashed potatoes and gravy after our arrival.

Lots of antiques, hot fresh coffee and a continental breakfast was available for us, even though we had to check out before 5 am the next day to make our business destination later that day. However, there is no internet access, so I wasn't able to send the emails I'd worked on earlier that day.

Lupe's taken on a monumental task and labor of love to turn this old, huge building into a viable business - and at our rate of $40/night for the 2 of us, it's a real bargain, so the deficiencies surely were acceptable! Again, it was so unique, it was a great adventure!

Room Tip: The bathrooms are down the hall - not in each room, but some rooms appeared to have working sinks in...

My boyfriend and I were traveling on Highway 30 and had to stop driving because of a storm. We stopped in Sedgwick and the historic Sedgwick Antique Inn was recommended by locals. The owner, Lupe, was very friendly. We stayed in a beautifully decorated room -- It felt like staying at an inn in Europe. She gave us a tour of the hotel in the morning -- It's been around since the turn of century and could be a museum! We had a lovely breakfast and were on our way. I definitely recommend this for couples looking for a romantic getaway or for people from the city who want a quiet place to rest their heads.
