“Clean, tiny, and some problems.”
Reviewed August 3, 2013 via mobile

It's one of those old motels, scrupulously clean. Despite being right on US 50, we heard no highway noise - drowned out by the window unit, which didn't quite cover the noise of the motorcycles at the next unit. The promised wifi never manifested itself. The tiny shower drained so slowly and the basin was so shallow that I was reduced to a sponge bath - totally unacceptable. There was no one to report this to when we left at 9 am.

This motel was the cutest motel ever. We stayed here as we were passing through on vacation .. The owners Patty And Robert have remodeled the rooms and the grounds. They put a lot of thought and love into the design of the rooms and grounds. The beds and pillows were very comfortable.. There hospitality was the best.. Thank you for an enjoyable stay..

We weren't sure where we were staying and ended up in Salida. We found a wine festival in the main part of town unexpectedly and live music was pouring into the streets from the bars. A cute little town with a river we decided to stay in Salida for the night. However we called 5 hotels and they were completely booked. The Budget Lodge had one very small room left so we took it happy to have a room for the night. It is located on HWY 50 about a mile from the cute town. It looks old from the outside. The room is very small but the price is only $55 per night. Great price and the room was very clean. You also get a small fridge and stuff to make coffee. The bedding was cute with a mountain theme. The bed was not that comfortable but typical of a budget sort of place. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay then stay here - it is very clean and basic for $55 a night. It was fine for 1 night in Salida. For the price - my expectations were met.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room- It seems like the rooms vary in size.

We just returned from a two week road trip from the bay area to Santa Fe. we camped and stayed in motels about half and half. Budget Lodge was about as good as it get for fifty five bucks a night.
It was the best place we stayed.
It had:

Free Wireless Internet access in all rooms
In-room coffee makers with both regular and decaf coffee
Refrigerator
In room thermostat
Alarm clock
Color flat screen TV with HBO
Irons and ironing boards available on request
Hair Dryer available on request
Roll-away beds available on request
Park in front of your room
In addition there were outlets conveniently place for charging Ipads, Phone et.
Reading lamps on the side tables next to the bed.
There was even a quart of chocolate ice cream in the refrigerator.

The owners have done a great job remodeling an older motel. They have added a touch of Colorado decor to the rooms which is what we enjoyed. We stayed in Room #2 which had plenty of room for the three of us. The rooms were very clean and we enjoyed the convenience of the yard which enabled us to sit out and enjoy the breeze in the evenings. The facility has a laundry room which was a nice touch after being away from home for several days. The motel is also a short drive to the downtown area which we enjoyed. We went on vacation to have a quiet relaxing vacation in the mountains and Budget Motel provided us a clean room away from the madness. Another nice touch was the motel is American owned and operated!

I am all in favor of budget motels, as long as they are clean and have the basics that are needed for comfort. However, this was absolutely the worst motel I've ever stayed in -- I can't believe anyone could give it a good review. First, our room (#9) was so tiny there was barely room to walk around the one queen-sized bed. I had never seen such a tiny room! There was no chair, no table, no place to put any of our stuff. I also found it incredible that there was no electrical outlet in the bathroom. To make matters worse, the single little bottle of shampoo that was in the bathroom when we checked in had already been partially used! We paid in advance for 2 nights, and when we returned to our room on the second evening after being out all day, the room was exactly as we had left it in the morning -- no one had come in to make the bed, clean up the bathroom, or anything. However, they DID come in during the day to turn off the air conditioning, which we had left on so that we wouldn't come back to a hot room in the evening. This place is the bottom of the barrel -- stay away!
