The Salida Riverside Park is a great place to stop whenever you're coming through Salida. Just a couple blocks from downtown, which has many quaint and interesting art galleries and restaurants, the Riverside Park also offers an entire day of activity if you wish. There is an actual park with playground equipment including a climbing wall for children. Often the park hosts a weekend craft fair or produce market. There is a band shell amphitheater where we have frequently seen small musical presentations. The Arkansas River runs right along the edge of the park, of course. In warmer weather it's a great deal of fun to walk to the upstream end of the park, jump in the water, float down to the other end of the park, get out and repeat that. People do this all the time either with tubes, life vests, or no floating device. There is a kayak slalom course that runs through the upper portion of the park. Often you can see kayakers playing in the river in this area. There is a boat put in and take out ramp right in the middle of the park and downtown area. Parking can be tough to find, but if you drive across the bridge there is a parking lot on the far side of the river. There are plenty of places to picnic along the river, as well as several nice eating establishments with outdoor dining. Be on the lookout for some of the interesting artwork along Riverside Park too.
