“Great and informative fun”
Reviewed March 25, 2012

I am an avid fly fisherman and my son (4 y/o) is getting into fishing as well. Our family went to the hatchery for a visit, combined with a walk around the neighboring Frantz Lake. A nice 2 hour outing.

The hatchery has a visitor office with displays of many kinds of trout and other fish. A 10 minute video offers interesting information about the history of the hatchery and about how rivers and high mountain lakes get stocked. But the highlight of the visit was surely getting a Folgers coffee can with fish food, and being able to wander around the hatchery feeding the fish :)

“Nice - but where is the staff?”
Reviewed November 1, 2011

Never having been to a fish hatchery, thought this would be fun/educational for the kids (age 10-16). Called in advance, got hours, stopped in, and although the place was "open" as advertised, there was no one in site for the 1.5 hours that we were there. Not a soul. The office was "open" however, and they had restrooms/and even a TV/with video to watch...was was all very good....and it is free....but with no human being to at least give a 5 minute orientation was a bit odd. Cool looking place, and the "lights are on" --but I'd call and get a definitive commitment from staff to being there before your visit to make it really worth your time.

“A great place for a quick stop”
Reviewed July 26, 2009

We stopped here mainly so my two kids (5 & 7) could run off some energy. They loved it and it became the highlight of their trip. We watched a short (10 minutes or so) video about the history of the fish hatchery and the process. Then we were given a coffee can with fish food and we walked the raceways feeding the fish. My kids loved it. The visitor center there has lots of great info, coloring sheets, trading cards with colorado animals and other good information. The guy working was friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend it as a great place to stop for an hour or so.

Open from 8:00-4:00 M-F You get to see raceways with fish from 2 inches to 10 inches long and you get to feed them. Fun! Good for young kids.
