Owner description: An area of the Arkansas River with spectacular scenery and 14,000-foot mountains.

Salida has a beautiful riverwalk for everyone! Drive through downtown and park on the other side of the river and hit the trail. There are a couple of cool restaurants along the trail. Take some time to watch the kayakers practice in the river. If you need to get some height, take the Tenderfoot Mountain hike up the S mountain.

If you're passing by the area, be sure to visit here. There is a 7 dollar fee. Most people do not pay it. But I know you're a good American citizen (or honorable global traveler) and will support the site.

What a place to have a picnic. If you're on the road and want a shady spot with tables to eat your Pb&J, stop here.

This is probably the only place you're going to get to have a full, Panaramic view of the Collegiate Peaks. Yep, Yale, Princeton, Columbia. Seriously, guys. You're in such an amazing place and you just had to name them after Ivy League schools, didn't ya?

But enough of the rant. I got the best shots of the mountains from here.

If you are a first time visitor to the area, this is a great stop for resources on local outdoor activities and weather conditions! The staff are friendly and wealth of information-and, the building is dog friendly!
