“Unique Rooms and Stunning Views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013 via mobile

My boyfriend and I have been enjoying the western slope of Colorado quite a bit. We found a Groupon for this place and were pleasantly surprised. The city itself is surrounded by stunning views and the locals were all very nice.
The hotel has a boutique resort feel to it and the solar tub was amazing - along with the robes and fire pit!

Great service, great food on site and very nice, friendly staff!

We also enjoyed a massage at the spa- not a thing was disappointing.

Our room was atrocious. There was very little light, it had a poor layout, and you could hear everything from the outside. I got a whiff of funky smells when we first came, and they never went away. There isn't much to do in the resort besides work out in tiny, cramped gym and go in the heated pool (which closes at 10pm). The nearest ski logde is over an hour away driving and there isn't much to do in Ridgeway. On top of it all, the receptionist had a serious attitude problem. The one saving grace of this decrepit place was the Four Seasons Cafe. I will never come back.

Dear Peter,
Yes it is true that all of our units come with blinds so as to block the sunlight allowing some guests the comfort of darkness to sleep in by, if so desired. Our great room, a common area located in the Lodge, offers two-story wrap around windows that with our passive solar design not only heats the solarium within but also offers breath taking views of the Cimarron Mountain Range. Our living solarium will ode an earthy scent throughout the lodge accommodations that most people find palatable but on rare occasion one could find fresh air off putting.
Ridgway itself is a small mountain town that is bustling with activities in all directions! Within the Chipeta itself the on site spa offers yoga and passive martial art classes most mornings at 8:30am; talented therapists and estheticians on call for any massage needs and live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at our resident restaurant the Four Corners Café. Nestled in the San Juan Mountain Range one could indulge in several outdoor activities including snow shoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, horseback riding and ballooning just steps from The Chipeta’s front door! In town you might find the True Grit Café appealing giving it is the site where the original John Wayne film was shot. Perhaps a stop at one of several local art galleries is more you style? Well there is Resource, Ridgway Gallery and Coal Creek Studios just to name a few. Would you like to take in a film? There is the Sherbino Theater four blocks in town or try the Wright Opera House Theater just fifteen minutes away in Ouray. Does a relaxing soak sound more appealing? Just two miles down the road is Orvis Hot Springs.
Our front desk staff would’ve been happy to direct you and does work hard to meet all of our guests needs but I do apologize if you felt all and all that Ridgway and the Chipeta Solar Springs Resort did not meet your needs.

If you'd like to hear the guests next door talk, walk, laugh or cry you'll love these paper thin walls. The lobby music was left on all night which means we couldn't sleep. Although the bed, pillows and linens circa 1910 didn't help the situation. Anyone could have looked through the window without blinds into our room. Only one person gets a nightstand and a plug. Although the router light blinked all night in our open eyes we were unable to connect to the open and overloaded wifi. Broken light fixture, mold in shower, plugs against code next to the sink. Oh, and no TV. Camping would have been more enjoyable because it would have been quiet. WAY over priced!

Dear Unsatisfied Guest,
I am terrible sorry to hear that your stay with us was all together terrible. Our main Lodge in an Adobe style building that works quite well for our green and passive solar initiatives but occasionally we do receive a noise complaint as some guests are less aware of their surrounds and personal noise level.
We here at the Chipeta would love to control the weather however when a snow storm hits the Ridgway area our internet connection can become intermittent at best and we ask for patience and understanding in this matter.
Its quite a romantic idea that our linens are circa 1910, unfortunately I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that we restock our linens each season. We do enjoy offering our guests the opportunity to escape and unplug from all forms of technology including the television but again you should be aware that over half of our accommodations do offer satellite T.V.
If you do decide to book online with another hotel, resort, hostel, motel, etc. I offer you one word of advice: do your research. It just so happens that all of our units are clearly listed on our website, www.Chipeta.com, with comprehensive descriptions and photographs of each and every room.
Happy New Year to you and yours and always safe and Happy Travels!
Best,
Chipeta Solar Springs Resort

Truly, this place is stunning. The location is absolutely beautiful, and away from main roads. The Southwestern decor throughout the inside is very beautiful and relaxing. The staff are friendly, high caliber people who genuinely care about their guests comfort. The rooms are quiet, clean and quite nicely furnished.

Now we get to the best parts! They have a clean, natural pool for swimming that is open year round. All salt sterilized, no chlorine, and vacuumed daily. One of the nicest pools I've ever been in. Next, there is a very large outdoor hot tub, also salt water and no chlorine, with a thatched roof overhead. The view from the hot tub is extraordinary: huge mountain ranges in all four directions, and wide open spaces. Without a doubt, the most relaxing hot tub experience I've ever had. Also, there is a massage staff on board, a spa with steam room and nice, clean spacious shower areas and clean lockers. Very high class while being totally unpretentious. And all of this is literally a very short walk from the rooms. And there's a really great restaurant on the premises, with excellent food and even live music outside on the deck on certain nights.

It is no exaggeration to say that this is the very best resort/spa/vacation getaway hotel I've ever stayed at. In fact, it's actually the only one I've ever stayed at that I was truly able to deeply relax as we all dream of relaxing on an actual vacation. I cannot recommend this place highly enough for those looking for an almost surreal relaxation experience. Perfect for meditation, sunbathing, massages, hot tubs, steam rooms, dining, sleeping, playing and more. Yes!

You would not think that a small quaint little town like Ridgway, CO would have such an adorable southwestern style lodge. I loved the Honeymoon Suite. The bed was simple, and soft, and too easy to sleep in. It has a beautiful view, fireplace (no real logs), and a private hot tub at the highest point of the hotel w/ 360 degree views of Ridgway and the mountains, and fabulous night-time star views. There is also a public pool, hot tub, sauna, and lounge area with a fireplace (real logs), to hang out in. It seemed like everyone, everywhere in that hotel was happy and relaxed. And many were repeat customers, too. The lodge is within walking distance to the whole town, restaurants, bars, antiques and shopping. And if you do not want to walk far, the restaurant they have there at the hotel is fantastic (you have to try it at least twice!) Because we were so happy and relaxed, we didn't leave very often. Yes, it was our Honeymoon, and we could not have picked a better place. The owner visited with us a few times, and made us feel like we were guests in her home (and I guess we were). We live in Telluride, CO which is magical on it's own, but stepping away to the Chipeta Solar Springs was amazing, to say the least.

Room Tip: Go for the suites, well worth it! They are private, some with private hot tubs.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2012

We (my daughter-in-law and myself), spent 2 nights at the Chipeta Solar Sun Lodge the end of October. It was the off season so the hotel was not even half full. That is how we like it.
We had originally booked the Tower room, (2 beds with separate rooms) but since it was upstairs (directly above the front desk) and we had a baby with a stroller the front desk upgraded us to the Dominques Canyon which is on the ground floor of the Kiva Suites building with lots of room to move around in, a king bed and a twin bed. It also has a private hot tub, which the Tower room does not. I was quite happy with the room. It is a bit older, and there were cob webs above the curtains and around the light fixtures, but the beds were clean and comfortable. It is similar to a log cabin type room with the open beams and there was quite a bit of dust on the logs. Needed a good cleaning. It is back in a corner, kind of, and was very quiet the first night. The 2nd night there were occupants above us so we could hear them moving around some. Overall we enjoyed the room, tho, due to the extra space for the baby and the stroller.
I especially enjoyed sitting in the Lodge around the fire and drinking coffee, eating breakfast or just reading a book. If I were to go again, I would request a room in the lodge, just so I could open my door in the morning and listen to the wonderful music and hear the cackle of the fire and feel the sun come in through the solar windows. Simply relaxing!!! I looked into most of the rooms, and believe I would request the Ute. It is at the end of the hall on the second floor so no one would be walking past you. It also has it's own private hot tub, and faces East and North so there are beautiful views of the mountains. The Cimarron is directly above the Ute with the same beautiful views and a bit bigger, but does not open up to the Lodge directly. It would be my 2nd choice, with Tower being third. The Mears and Loghill are accessed through the Lodge on the 2nd floor, but are very small. The Tower is also an excellent choice as it has 2 separate rooms each with a small balcony. It is very small, tho, as are many of the rooms in the Lodge on the second floor. The 2 middle rooms also do not have any outside doors or windows, so they can tend to get very hot. I can not remember their names at the moment, but did write them down or future reference. The benefit of the Lodge rooms is that they are cheaper and you get tall the ambiance. They push the Kiva Suites for their size and privacy, but I really liked the Lodge.
The weather was beautiful Snowed a bit the first night making the mountains look absolutely beautiful.
We found the restaurant to be wonderful. We ate all of our meals there and the food was always excellent. The chef even came out and visited with us when our food was taking a bit longer. They threw in wine a dessert for the delay, without us even asking.
All of the staff at the hotel was very helpful and professional. They tired to make us as happy as possible.
We also had massages and a facial. I loved the facial. It was with Shari, who is just amazing. The massages were not worth the money. The pressure was very light, even though I asked for something deeper. It was more like a rub down, not a massage. My daughter-in-law was a bit upset with hers since the gal talked to her the entire time and lectured her about modern medicine. Very annoying and something that needs not be discussed during a supposedly relaxing massage. She found out my daughter-in-law was an RN and that was all it took. Unprofessional to say the least.
Ridgeway is a wonderful little town. We visit at least twice a year and have always wanted to try this hotel. I am glad we did. We walked around and visited all of the stores. everyone was extremely friendly.
I would have given The Chipeta Sun Lodge 5 stars except for the dust in the room and the massage.
Would I visit again. For sure. I am thinking about maybe a weekend getaway with my husband in the near future.

Room Tip: Pick the Lodge rooms for the ambiance of it all!! If you want bigger and a bit more private, hen go...

Just got back from our stay at the Chipeta. Great Service and attention to detail. Very mellow ambiance. Loved the hot pool (wished the lap pool was working -but next time!) Its a great choice of place to stay for the area.
