“Wonderfull and quiet state park”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

Our mid May stay began the summer season for us after a long cold winter here in Colorado. We hooked up our trailer and set out our grill to formally open camping season. A real highlight of this trip was my wife catching a 4 lb Brown trout in the pond near the campground and the excellent fish taco's it provided for our group. We made day trips to Ouray and the wine tasting tour in Grand Junction. The park is very nice with a lot of variety and space. We hiked numerous trails and biked around the park.
Our group is already planning our 2015 trip.

“Little Gem”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

This is a smallish state park, at least the part we were allowed to visit (a downed plane was being recovered from the nearby reservoir). But the Gunnison River flows through it and is beautiful. We hiked along the river all the way to the dam. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

“Bad park rangers”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

One of the park rangers is on a power trip and the rest are very quick to over enforce rules. This makes for a very unenjoyable vacation. We will never go back to be harassed by over zealous park ranger's. I hope all of the Colorado parks are not run this way.

“A great place to start your hiking adventures to get used to altitude”
Reviewed December 19, 2013

This is a really nice state park that not many people go to. There are a large number of camp sites and RV sites. We just went there for a warm up hike since it is well below all the other hikes in the Ouray area. Nice lake to walk around. Pretty much a well marked trial so not an adventure hike at all. But if you are not used to the altitude and want to have a very pleasant hike and not be worried about bears (kidding) this is the place. They have a nice but not spectacular ranger station and the lady that was there when we were there was really exceptionally helpful. I will return the next time I have flat lander guests visiting who need a semi-gentle yet outdoors hike to warm them up. We also met some very nice folks on the hike. It is the type place where you want to stop and chat with total strangers. Dogs are welcome on leash.

“Great Base Camp for Autumn Paradise”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

Great starting point for various well known roads and areas for fall leaf peeping. Full hook ups available into October (water will be turned off at night if freezing temps are forecasted). Layout of campsites gave you privacy. State Park staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Looks like it would be a great place for spring and summer camping also. Lots of trails around the campground. Easy to access fishing areas. Highly recommend.
