Visited Orvis for the first time this year. It was a great experience and we actually stayed an extra night. The clientele was primarily couples (some gay, some lesbian) although there were a few singles and groups of women. Everyone was friendly and no "creepy" vibe. Grounds are well kept, organized and clean. Definitely going back.

Only drawback is location is close to road which requires fencing, but there isn't much yoou can do about where the spring is.

Enjoyed this hot spring as this was the only clothing optional one on our hot spring tour of southwest Colorado. Except for our curse of constant rain, this place was excellent. There were about 6 springs of varying temperature up to 110º. The big pool was quite pleasant and a good temperature at 105º. Wish more of the Colorado hot springs offered clothing optional as we were spoiled in Japan by this and prefer no other way.

As all the other reviews have said, the hot springs and grounds are beautiful.

I've been going to Orvis for more about 4 years and have always visited in the winter on ice climbing trips to Ouray.

On a recent summer trip to the area, we camped out at Orvis.

I'm all about Orvis as a hot springs, but this time there was a strange atmosphere with some of the other guests. Being nude in the water is one thing, but it is quite another to have people using the hot springs as a nudist colony and imposing their weirdness on others. Case in point- the nude man who came over to set up towns and sit within two feet of my girlfriend and I on the outside of the pool when we were in a pool, with no one else around. He wasn't on a chair, just on the ground trying to sneak a peak. W...T....F....This was not the only such example from our recent visit.

Perhaps Orvis needs to rebrand themselves so as to attract less of the creeper crowd.

We stayed in Ouray for the weekend, but made a trip out to Orvis for an afternoon. Although the public hot spring pool in Ouray is fun, Orvis is a much more secluded retreat and is a welcome alternative. The landscaping is lovely and the four different pools offer great options for different kinds of soaks. I would have loved to have stayed longer. Although we wore our swimsuits, this is a clothing optional establishment, so keep that in mind!

The grounds are absolutely beautiful from the aspect of a planned, landscape; but when considering the real reason to go to the San Juan Mountains -- for their absolute beauty in all their openness, then one does not get that feeling when inside a fence. With just a limited view of this beautiful scenery from the seated or standing places in the resort, it was a great disappointment. The seating that is provided either in the pools or the seating outside is rough and uncomfortable with no area for reclining, it made truly relaxing very difficult.

It's a very different experience from my one other co experience in SXM.
