“Time travel back to a previous century”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

If you enjoy the ambiance of historic old lodges and inns, then you will love the Redstone Inn located in Redstone, Colorado. Originally built as bachelor’s quarters for CF&I workers, it has been restored as a wonderful inn for travelers. At over 100 years old, the inn is a remarkable piece of working Colorado history.

The owners have staffed the hotel with dedicated employees. Whether dealing with the front desk, dining or maintenance personnel, you come away with the feeling that they love the inn and the location. Everyone you meet is a pleasure to deal with and they work hard to meet all your expectations.

Redstone is a small town with a few galleries and shops. There are a couple of places to get food and snacks besides the inn. The key word here is “small”, so don’t expect the same services as you will find in Basalt, another “small” town in the area. Be prepared to entertain yourself while staying in Redstone.

Accommodations at the Redstone are basic. There are small televisions in the room and the WIFI is spotty. Our cell phones had no service, so it was a chance to become disconnected from the outside world. If you live and die through connectivity, you may want to think twice about Redstone and the inn.

We had a queen with bath. The bed filled the room and we had a small dresser end night stand on one side. There is also a small closet. The bath was also small. Remember that this inn was originally built for the single workers and there were probably two single beds at one time. If you have ever stayed in the old part of the Old Faithful Inn, you know what to expect. The rooms are adequate for sleeping and changing. Don’t worry about spending time in them.

The first floor has a library room and a great room next to the main dining room. There is also a bar and grill. Outside the bar and grill is the swimming pool and hot tub and the exercise room. The exercise room has everything you need to break a sweat and get a good workout.

The food at the inn is wonderful. The chef and the staff prepare wonderful meals that stack up against any restaurant in Vail or Aspen. The morning start is casual so don’t expect breakfast at 6:00 AM. You’ll probably have to wait until 7:30 to get things rolling. So don’t rush it. Take your time and enjoy the morning.

We stayed at the inn during the early summer. There was no problem getting a room. At this time of the year you want a room that faces east. That means it will be in the shade in the afternoon and therefore be much cooler and comfortable than the west facing rooms.

If you plan to view the aspen trees changing in the fall, you had better make your reservations the winter before. The changing of the leaves is legendary. It will be the memory of a lifetime if you can get a room at the peak of the season. The area around Redstone is home to huge aspen groves and other broad leaf trees. Autumn is the time to be there.

Redstone is very near the town of Marble, home of the famous Crystal Mill. It is a short drive from the inn and you can get a jeep tour back to Crystal City to view the leaves. The road to the mill is a jeep road. The road will destroy your family car. Take a tour, bring the family car home in one piece.

Also take the tour of the Redstone Castle a couple of mile to the south. It is wonderful.

If you plan to have a low key, slow paced stay at the Redstone Inn, you will have a wonderful experience. If you are high maintenance and need to be entertained, this is not the place for you. The Redstone Inn is a trip back into a previous century. Enjoy the experience.

Room Tip: For summer visit get an East facing room. They are cooler in the evening.

Set in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. this is an old hotel built in the mining era of the late 1900. It is clean and was very quiet. The grounds are beautiful. there is a hot tub and poolside tables to dine outside. An evening stroll through town was peaceful and relaxing. A beautiful park is along the Crystal River where Ma ma geese and gosling were feeding. Always a wonderful stay and I go at least once a year. Just remember it is older .

Room Tip: the staff will describe the room for you when you book. Mine was a small cozy room.

Built during the mining boom at the end of the 19th c. in a location that still feels remote, Redstone Inn is my favorite kind of Colorado hotel. The ambience is Victorian with a splash of hunting lodge. The decor is not "designed." The Inn is clean, updated maybe 10 years ago, but also creaky -- we could hear our own floor plus squeaks in the floor of the room next door. We had a very comfortable king-size bed, a plain little bathroom, and a breathtaking view. The hotel has cosy parlors for reading or conversation, a nice bar, a restaurant, a spotlessly clean pool, a friendly staff, and affordable authenticity.

Room Tip: Try the top floor to minimize sound.

We stayed at the Redstone Inn again and had a very enjoyable experience. We upgraded to the Osgood Suite using the winter special "Getaway" package. This package is for a two night stay mid-week and includes one very nice 4 course dinner and two free Continental breakfasts. A sleigh ride is also included or you may have a $50 credit towards other Inn services.

The special 4 course dinner for two off the menu was outstanding. We were served in the fireside room for privacy and a special atmosphere.

We love the Redstone area with the quaint village, shopping, and beautiful local scenery. On the weekends, be sure to schedule a tour of the Redstone Castle.

We also book camp sites in the local Forest Service campground for RV trips to the area.

Room Tip: Check out the Redstone Inn web page for the various room accomodations. The Village of Redstone also...

We have stayed at the Redstone Inn once before and enjoyed it so we returned for the "date night package."
The food in the restaurant is top notch. The room was cozy, warm and comfortable. All of the staff are friendly and accommodating.

So, I had heard great things about The Redstone Inn for several years. It is a very nice, country inn, with lots to offer. The building itself is full of charm and character. The staff was warm, friendly, and eager to assist anyway possible. We booked " The Getaway to Redstone Package," and we were extremely happy with all it had to offer. We upgraded to a Veranda Room, which looked better than the online picture. The room was well lit, nice furnishings, and had two doors opening onto a veranda on each end of the room. The bed was extremely comfortable, the linens were soft and the towels were nice a thick. The bathroom was very clean and the shower had amazing pressure. We looked at the Vintage / Turn of the Century Rooms, and they looked very comfortable.

The restaurant exceeded our expectations. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was one word "PERFECT"!!!! We ate at the restaurant both nights, and tried the filet, prime rib and elk. The meat was always cooked to the perfect temperature. The brie had a nice surprise of being drizzled with caramel which only added to the great taste. The salads were large and full of flavor. Don't forget to save room for dessert, and after drink.

I am not sure about some of the negative reviews on here. This is a country inn, not a Mega-Resort. The Redstone Inn is about "charm, nostalgia and hospitality". It's like stepping back in time, but having all the modern amenities. We had a flat-screen TV with DVD player in our room, the heat worked very well, not to mention the decor which led to a perfect romantic weekend. It was 22 degrees one nigh with snow on the ground and the hot tub was perfect. The people in Redstone, were just as friendly as the people at the inn.

We plan on returning soon and would recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway.

Room Tip: We looked at several rooms because we want to return with friends. The rooms each seem to be decorat...

Restone Inn sits near the entrance to the town of Redstone so you can't miss it when you first turn into the town. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was a wedding the weekend we were there so they closed the grill but you could still get grill type food in the dining room. The pool was also closed due to the private wedding party so make sure you ask about that in advance. The room we stayed in was on the 3rd floor, good price, half bath with king size bed. It was a rather large room with big windows overlooking the fall colors. Make sure you stop by the Restone Castle. It's history and antiques are amazing!
