I went at Christmas time. It was beautiful. Definately worth the tour. Not something I would do yearly but interesting.

Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it can give you a really amazing place to live. Imagine living in a home with 37 rooms covering 24,000 square feet. The house is built of pink granite quarried 75 miles away. Interior woods include oak, cherry, mahogany and maple. It’s beautiful. It was named Rosemount after the favorite flower of the lady of the house, Mrs. Thatcher.
Fortunately most of the furnishing are original to the home so you can really get a feel for the elegance of the Victorian era. On your guided tour, note some of the hand painted ceilings, the hand carved stair railings, the hand stitched chair seats and backs, and the Tiffany chandeliers.
One of the rooms contains a few of the collected items of Mr. Thatcher. You can see a real mummy, one of three Mr. Thatcher owned. By the way, there is one mislabeled item in that collection. Mr. Thatcher thought he had a stork, but it is, in fact, a white pelican. The horn on the beak shows it was in breeding plumage. He was a great business man, but not a naturalist.

Interesting place to tour, lots of good information about early Pueblo and the families. Wonderful decorations and decor. It is a little long though. Everyone should visit, once.

This is a very interesting museum to visit. However, you will need several hours to tour the building. Volunteers will help you tour the building but they talk for hours about the family, and history of the building. Will will need time!

When I travel, I always check out the old home tours. So it was a very pleasant surprise to find this one in my own town. The history and woodwork in this place is just stunning. Highly recommend.
