Fresh and Wyld Farmhouse Inn
Ranked #6 of 7 Paonia B&B and Inns

Fresh & Wyld's location makes it easy to get outdoors and play or visit area wineries. It's location just outside of downtown Paonia offers peace and tranquility if you are looking for a quiet place to relax. The food is outstanding. A delicious, healthy, organic breakfast is included with the cost of the room, making it a great value. Forget the day old bagels, donuts or modest buffets that are typically offered with the included breakfast at conventional hotels. Fresh & Wyld's gourmet breakfasts are incredible. Join them for a Friday night farm to table dinner where you are likely to meet some local residents and learn more about life in the area.

We were in town for a motorcycle rally, and really expected Fresh and Wyld to be a highlight of the trip. What we found is that we needed to temper our expectations. First the good stuff. It's a great location, very quiet and quaint on the edge of town. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. Now, it is a farmhouse and you're going to be hearing almost everything given the hardwood floors and older construction, but that's just a given and not a problem as the other guests all seemed to be very respectful of this. We arrived after a long and hot day on the bikes hoping to relax for a bit before meeting family for dinner in town. We were in the King Cottonwood room, and relaxing in there on an early Friday evening is a bit of a challenge as its sits right off the dining room and there was a fairly loud and boisterous dinner crowd, the bathroom for the King Cottonood also shares a wall with the kitchen, so there was noise from that side also. If you want to avoid this, get one of the rooms on the "wing" of the house outside the entrance. Breakfast on weekends is not like you'd expect at a B & B, it's very late. On Saturdays it's at 9:00, and on Sundays it's at 9:30. I couldn't find any reference to this on the website, nor do I remember Dava mentioning it when I made our reservations. There's plenty to do in the local area that makes these late breakfast times a problem as they cut into the day. We had the regular breakfast on Saturday, service was fast and efficient. For Sunday we'd told them that we weren't planning on waiting till 9:30 (and from what we could tell a few other guest told them the same thing) so they put out some oatmeal and fruit at 8:00. We, along with three other guests took advantage of that, I watched three more guests leave just as it was being served, so they didn't get any breakfast. Given its location and travel times they really need to we've earlier breakfasts on weekends (weekday breakfasts are at 8:00). Kind of disappointed for the price.

Hands down the most scrumptious food my family has had in years. The Farmhouse is tranquil and the setting is simply beautiful. Our kids had a blast riding bikes around town during the day and we took lovely long hikes. Drove up to Black Canyon, an easy ride and absolutely stunning views. We had the Friday dinner and Sunday breakfast. Each meal was a celebration of incredibly fresh food, so tasty. The meals were delicious, comforting, fresh -- with tantalizing dishes of a skilled chef. We felt like we were eating meals at a favorite family friend's house, but the friends were experienced, trained gourmet chefs with a huge kitchen garden filled with picked-today-fresh produce supplemented by loads of local meats, cheeses, and more. This is a fantastic destination to relax, eat great food, and take in some beautiful natural scenery, and it's affordable. We've been three times now, once in the summer and once in twice. This is a place everyone in our family enjoyed.

Room Tip: We stayed in the largest suite as a couple. It was only $135 and that included breakfast! The bed wa...

The Inn is nestled half way between Aspen and Telluride in Western Colorado. Remember to get the directions off the the website at Freshandwyld.com, otherwise it is not easy to find.

It took my husband and I two hours to drive there from Old Snowmass. It was a beautiful drive, heading South toward Redstone on 133 and then over McClure Pass to get to Harding Road in Paonia.

The Inn boasts a very popular Friday night Farmer's Dinner made from Organic and locally grown food. Dinners are served at 6:30pm, with only one seating. Reservations are required. Communal tables are set up both outside and in so when making your reservation tell Dava Parr, the owner, what your preference is. Also, if you are with a group, you can request your own table. Entree price is $17. Children under 4 ft. tall eat for $8. Coffee, dessert and wine are extra. The wine we drank came from the local vineyard, Bethlehem Cellers, and was delicious!

We had a large apartment suite called The Wyld House. Located directly outside the Inn, on a wing of the building, it is more private and a perfect layout for a family with young children. The room offers a separate bedroom with a king sized bed and bathroom and a main room with a kitchenette, living room, sofa bed and a twin bed tucked into the corner. The price can't be beat at $145 for two people and $15 extra per person up to 4. You can even bring your pet, if it's well behaved and gets along with other dogs like the resident beautiful long haired German Shepard who hangs with the guests.

In the mornings a deliciously large Farmer's breakfast is served at 9am. Walk it off in the nearby Black Canyon or go fruit picking at the Black Bridge Winery (late August for peaches and October for apples).

The Inn is very popular amongst not only the locals but many a young couple from the Aspen area so be prepared to mix and mingle in a friendly setting.

It is also a beautiful spot to get married or have a honeymoon.

Check out their couples weekend package from November - February where you get 25% off your room and a free bottle of local wine.

The closest commercial airports are within 1 to 2 hours away the closets being Montrose then Grand Junction then Eagle.

Room Tip: I recommened the apartment suites

We love going to Paonia to visit friends and stay at Fresh & Wyld whenever we can. The inn is very comfortable & the people are friendly and welcoming. Three of the rooms have private baths and 4 rooms upstairs share 1 & 1.5 baths. Dava, the owner & chef makes wonderful breakfasts from locally grown produce & meats. The mountain biking in the area is great and the local farmers & orchard stores have awesome organic food.

Room Tip: Apartment room is roomiest & has kitchen

My wife and I stayed in Fresh and Wyld for two nights while we explored Delta county looking for a home. It was their slow time, and we were the only guests. The food was delicious, the room was clean, warm and neat. The shower was hot and the hospitality was gracious. The dogs were playful and yet well behaved.

Paonia is a lovely little town with a movie theatre (1 screen), a few restaurants, and an old time barber shop.(Petes) While in town I got a hair cut, and a an old time straight razor neck trim. Pete is a Korean war vet, and a very nice gentleman.

Overall, I'd welcome the chance to go back.
