Owner description: While we take the art of winemaking seriously, we like to have fun too. A favorite since 1988, we're known for pioneering Colorado wines made from local grapes and fruit, with names like Laughing Cat, Cougar Run, and a Dinosaur series. Carlson Vineyards, a small farm winery, produces premium wines in the heart of Colorado wine country above the town of Palisade, at an altitude of 4700 ft. Grape wines: Riesling, T-Red (Lemberger), Sweet Baby Red, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. Fruit wines: Cherry, Plum, Peach and Pearadactyl (Pear-Apple). Relax and savor the scenic vistas of the Grand Valley and Colorado River too. Located on Palisade's Fruit & Wine Scenic Byway around mile marker 6 on East Orchard Mesa.

Stop here for fab fruit wines! Try the Fat Cat Muscat! Friendly staff pours from the top of a lengthy list on down. I really didn't want to start at the top;) as I wanted to try those that interested me more and I was more apt to purchase. Since Carlson is known for fruit wines, that's what I wanted to try and buy. And, yes, the musket was AWESOME - so much so, that I bought two bottles.

Great selection for all wine lovers!

Cool winery, glad we stopped. They predominantly served fruit wines and sweeter wines, which are not quite our style.

This was probably our favorite place, not only because the wines are amazing and have some unique flavors, but because the employees were so nice and fun! They were joking with us and gave us a run down on every wine they had, and they had A LOT to taste. They also have a beautiful backyard that you can sit in to relax and eat or drink. Definitely hitting this one again.

Some friends did a destination wedding and included a stop here for a tasting. They did a very nice tour and tasting for about 60 people. The wines were not exactly our style, but seemed to be pretty well made and for those who light sweet or semi-sweet wines, including fruit based wines, this could be a very attractive place to get some.

This friendly winery and tasting room offers more fruit wines than others, but manages to put a twist on several concoctions. Their popular cherry wine is poured into a wine rimmed with hot Engstrom's chocolate, for a "chocolate covered cherries" taste treat. Or, add lemonade to that cherry wine for a cherry lemonade cooler sure to be the talk of any summer party. Tasting room also features some nice reds and whites for folks looking for nice local wine at very good prices. And a picnic table in the back is a cool resting place complete with the resident cat strolling around and a hummingbird feeder attracting many birds. Winery is a little further back in the vineyards and orchards than those immediately off the highway, but well worth the extra few minutes drive.
