“Way too Hot”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

We paid extra for the VIP so we could get into the adults only pools area. That day in August there was only one pool that moderately comfortable to stay in. The other adult pools were way too hot. We were only able to use those pools one day of the three that we were there. Our favorite pool down below was always too hot and we could never get in it. The Springs is a clean well landscaped, restful place most of the time. The issues with temperature were unusual except I saw that someone else complained about that as well. We will go back.

We'd like to thank you for taking the time to review your visit! We have 23 unique mineral water soaking pools o our property that range in temperatures from 98-114 degrees Fahrenheit every day. Many pools are above 102 degrees (the average temperature of a home hot tub) which can be too hot for many. To ensure the comfort of all our visitors, we post the temperatures (updated every hour) on whiteboards in the Bath House and Hotel front desk. Thank you for your review and we hope to see you again soon!

“The "hot springs" are not on the Piedra River!”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

The "hot springs" most reviews here refer to are not on the Piedra River! The town of Pagosa Springs has 3 commercial facilities providing geothermal soaking pools. The largest is called "The Springs" and is likely the facility referred to here. It is adjacent to the San Juan River. The Piedra River is quite separate, located several miles west of town. Other "hot springs" facilities in Pagosa Springs are "Healing Waters" and "The Overlook". All are centrally located in town. While there are other "hot springs" elsewhere in the county, they involve relatively lengthy hikes and are quite rustic. The commercial hot springs facilities in town offer many amenities in addition to warm mineral water soaking and visitors to Pagosa can walk to any of them from the main street..

“Very nice facility… pricey”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

We loved the hot springs here. Everyone was very friendly and the facility is set up really well. There are a lot of soaking areas here, of varying degrees, so you are sure to find one that will work for you. The setting is really nice and there is access to the San Juan River just below the springs. Not too many kids in the hot springs (they stay mainly in the pool area this time of year). My one gripe… it is VERY expensive, in my opinion, for what is there. The base rate is $24.00 per person and then you have to pay extra for the lockers. They have a package that includes lockers and towels as well and repeat entry (for the day), and an adult only area that is $45 per person. If you buy the base package you are not allowed to leave and reenter unless you pay again. Which I thought was ridiculous. I needed to leave for about 30 minutes and was told that I could not come back unless I paid again. Fortunately, we were done soaking after about 2 hours (how long can you really sit in there before you are totally dehydrated anyway), so we left before my appointment. I'm glad we bought the basic, because I probably would not have gone back in that particular day. Overall, I'm glad we did it, and would probably go again if we are ever in Pagosa Springs.

“Wanted to love it...but did not.”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

Lots of warm mineral pools with various temperatures right on the river...sounds good, right? For me, it was way too crowded. There was a line to get in the door and the main swimming pool had soo many people in it. I also thought many of the pools were murky and slimy. It seemed like the pools had lots of exfoliated skin and i even pulled a wad of hair from my hand...not my hair, yuck! We visited the hot springs in Glenwood and Ouray, and this was our family's least favorite. It was also the most expensive. We spent $90 (family of four) and stayed about two hours. On a bright note, my skin felt wonderful the next day.

We are sorry to hear about your less than excellent experience at The Springs Resort & Spa and would like to address your concerns. We do offer a quieter and less crowded, ‘Adults Only’ area for those guests that want a more peaceful retreat, of our 23 soaking pools, 5 are for our guests who are 18-and-over exclusively. Each of our pools is drained and cleaned twice a week. All of the pools are filled with 100% natural mineral water and you will see some cloudiness or "murkiness" from the minerals in the water, sometimes described as "white flecks." The minerals or "tufa" is also what causes the mineral buildup that forms the iconic tower like-fountain outside our reception area. The water has been used for thousands of years for its therapeutic qualities and benefits. We'd like to thank you for your feedback and we hope you consider joining us again!

“The Springs is right on the river in the middle of town.”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

It is probably the main reason that there is a town located at this spot. The Springs has recently completed a very nice addition to their hotel. This is the place to stay for those who prefer the service of a 4 star hotel, spa and hot springs. The hot springs are delightful. You sit in your favorite pool and watch the river flow by, the people walking the paths and look across at the town. We take all of our visitors to the Springs. Don't miss it.
