When we pulled up to the restaurant on a Sunday night, the parking lot was full so we thought we had to wait. Surprisingly, we were given a table right away because the place was bigger than we anticipated for a small mountain town. The service was a little slow probably due to the number of customers, but the bread, honey butter, and decent salad bar kept us busy until the appetizer and main courses arrived. The pound of hot wings were good and the price was reasonable. The BBQ combo plate was by far the biggest and best meal of the four our table ordered. A big plate with ribs, brisket, and half a chicken was more than I expected. I'm normally a big eater but I had to take some home that night. We also had ribs and fries (ribs were yummy and the fries were really good), beef and chicken fajitas (also good), and pork tenderloin (a little on the small side, but tasty). Overall, I felt we received good meals at a decent price and would eat there again.

Boss Hogg's is a little bigger and more professional than most of the other choices in Pagosa Springs. I totally agree with all the reviews that say it is average, not bad, etc. The food is decent, but not really great. The service is good, although it was very busy the night we were there and the kitchen was backed up.

Good place for families because they can seat big tables and have a varied menu. Lots of choices, and most of it is just okay. The atmosphere is good with lots of wood and a western theme.

We enjoyed Christmas Eve here. Friendly waitstaff. Tasty prime rib on special. We also tried their baby back ribs, fettuccini Alfredo and blue cheese burger. Everyone was pleased. The soup and salad bar comes with some entrees or is an inexpensive addition to others. It is basic and fresh. Call ahead to put your name on the wait list. Look for coupons in some of the local tourist magazines.

Boss Hogg's full parking lot from opening to close attests to the fact that this restaurant has a strong following among both locals and visitors. People know that they can get a good meal at a reasonable price here -- good value for money. The service is very good, and the fact that so many of the servers have been there for many years is a tribute to the management. Owners Mandy and her father Steve keep their eye on every detail and are visible in the restaurant all the time. Bartender Joanie -- known for her laugh, her delicious $2 margaritas and her amazing memory for her customers' drink and food preferences -- is a treasure. Her daughter Jeanette has her mother's same cheerful demeanor and good memory for what her customers like.

Among our favorites for lunch are the potato skins (half order is enough for lunch), salad bar with or without soup of the day, crab cakes, and chicken quesadillas (spicy or not). Our dinner favorites are prime rib, BBQ ribs and fried catfish. There also are vegetarian and gluten-free options. At dinner you get delicious wheat bread with whipped honey butter. Their cole slaw is excellent -- I often ask for an extra order to take home. The best table, especially in winter, is in front of the fireplace (seats eight).

A real plus here is the side room that gives you some privacy for special events like Christmas or birthday parties, ladies bridge luncheons, etc. If you have a large group, Mandy will work with you to make your event a success within your budget -- e.g., making lunch portion sizes of entrees normally available only on the dinner menu. The tables can be set up as you wish -- smaller tables, one long table or something in between.

When we were there it was tough to find a restaurant that was open that wasn't Mexican food. The two places, Marconis(Italian) and Boss Hoggs were about the only choices and both restaurants had a wait every night we were there. We waited about 30 minutes(thurs night), food was good/average same with salad bar.
