Well, we planned to stay only one night at the High Country Lodge but wound of staying 4 nights! Our cabin was clean and charming. Great place to bring your dog or horse. Rates were much better than the Durango area and the location is outside the town of Pagosa Springs. Ol Miners Steakhouse is located on the property and serves OUTSTANDING food too. I'd highly recommend staying in a cabin where you have your own kitchen and living room. Continental breakfast is also included. There isn't a pool but there are 4 hot tubs. Check it out, you'll be glad you did!

This lodge has rooms and cabins. We rented 2 cabins and had a reunion with friends. Lots of room to roam, and since it was pet friendly, we brought our dogs. The staff were great with service and helped us find things to do and places to go. The lodge recently changed managers/ownership and since my last visit in May 2010, the housekeeping staff has had a lot of training and supervision. Hot breakfasts are served on the weekends. Oh, and if you are traveling with horses or need a place for them while you are here, they have corrals. They have installed a cell phone booster in the lodge to help with reception.

First day I went I didn't see any horses. I looked for a sheet with the planned activities but I didn't see that either. When we came back to the room our room was not made up. I ask housekeeping and she said she was told not to make beds. I said I never heard of anything like that we always have our beds made. After a big ordeal our bed was made. Each morning housekeeping would say do you want service? We said Yes we are paying for service. The WIFII does not work in the room. It may work on the porch and in the lobby. But guess what they roll up the carpet at 10 pm. They lock the doors of the lobby and table area so you have nowhere to do your laptop except on the porch with no light and the mosquitoes. The cell phone you have to walk out towards the highway to get even a bar of service if you move the wrong way it is disconnected. We went to use the HOT TUBS, YUCK, they were so GREEN all 3 of them. The breakfast area has a waffle maker, some canned type fruit, bread and some OJ and coffee and cereal. That is the HOT breakfast. The room itself is nice for breakfast. Too bad the people that run the place live in the room behind the breakfast place because families could play board games in the evening but they can't because they close at 10 pm. Our bathroom was filthy on the floor and tub. The furniture is all beat up and scratches. So if you can get past all that stuff the area is relaxing and you can walk around.

We along with our dog, Lucky, were impressed with the dog and kid friendly grounds of lush grass, the trout pond, and out- buildings to explore. Rooms were large and comfortable with all the amenities, but a bit cramped with all the furniture. The hot tubs were a nice touch to the total venue but need to be cleaned more frequently.
Breakfast was appreciated with many choices. Loved having the steak house restaurant right next door. We splurged on a great dinner there.

This was our 3rd and LAST visit to High Country Lodge. We have been there 3 of last 4 years. Love the location but this visit was dismal...1) Inside had not been dusted or cleaned in long time.. Could autograph many places in dust, ceiling fan filthy. Bathroom floor dirty. Failed to change coffee cups 2nd morning, left no coffee and did not empty trash (we were gone all day, so no issues with us being in the way) Mattress was way overdue to be replaced. AND 2nd morning (about 6:30) had cold showers. Tried to call front desk and ask for help but desk does not open until 9.. And what had been a great amenity.... good breakfast with gravy etc. now is minimal ! When I told manager of desk of my concerns he NEVER ask what or why . I then told them of concerns and only comment was sorry.....
