My mother, sister and myself were so looking forward to spending a few days in a cabin, enjoying the area and the beautiful colors. Everything was great but the cabin. When we first walked in it was obvious that the rooms were dated, which we could handle, it was the filth that was hard to take. My mother sat on the bed for a few minutes and was bit by a spider. When we pulled the sheets back we discovered the sheets had not been changed. There were 4 beds in the cabin, none had been changed. The front desk did have housekeeping clean the room and supposedly changed the sheets. We left during this time and when we returned it appeared that only one bed was changed. The maitresses were filthy, scared we were going to have bed bugs. When we checked out we AGAIN explained our concerns. They offered no discount and said they had a new housekeeper. Would not recommend!

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before you give them your credit card.

We greatly apologize that you were not pleased with your visit!! It is our sole intention to be sure that each and every one of the hundreds of guest that stay with us each month enjoy a comfortable and pleasant stay!

Since after we had given immediate attention to correct your concerns upon check-in, and we were not advised at anytime during the remainder of your stay that you were still not 100% satisfied, we concluded that your concerns were addressed properly.

However, had we known you were still not pleased, we would have happily relocated you to one of our motel rooms since the remainder of our cabins were occupied or are currently undergoing renovations.

Simply because it is fall in the Rocky Mountains, is NO EXCUSE for a piece of a stray pine needle to find it's way into clean linens and again we apologize.

If you do decide to stay with us again (and we hope you do) even for just one night, we will give you the same 10% discount that you received upon check-in during this visit, which we offer to guest referred to us by local residents that stay a minimum of two nights to show them our appreciation.

Our deepest apologies!

Terrible musty smell to the room, crappy 13" TV, Nasty comforter, cracks under the front door, cracks in the tile in the bathroom, no counter space in the bathroom, but new carpet and paint. It's going to take a little more than new carpet and paint to fix up these rooms. Was the most enjoyable stay ever, walls are paper thin, I could hear the man next door snoring all through the night and his TV was on. Just a terrible place to stay. I paid 79.99 for one night and man do I feel ripped off, probably a 29.99 a night motel maybe a 39.99 but 79.99... Rip Off. Do not stay here, sleep in your car or truck.

Room Tip: Ask to see room 1st before you pay the money

We were able to walk to town. We walked across the street to the shops. The people working at the front desk were very friendly! Our little girls kept going to the front desk to get snacks and the owners offered to go buy us other things if we wanted something else! Incredible service and the people everywhere in Pagosa seemed extraordinarily friendly! We will absolutely go back!

The San Juan Motel is about half a mile east of the town, on Highway 160, just across the San Juan River.
It is a family business and the hosts are Marty and Judi who are both helpful and knowledgeable about the Pagosa Springs area. They have an older section of rooms near the highway and newer rooms further back. Reasonable rates and friendly service. The location west of the town shown on Google Maps is incorrect and the actual address is 191 Pagosa Street (this is also highway 160). The GPS location is
N37.26917 W106.99997.

If you're the least bit picky, this is probably not the place for you. But for the more adventuresome traveler, someone who appreciates what motels used to be like, the San Juan Motel is a step back in time. The newer section seems to date from the 1960's; the old log cabins may be 1930's or 40's.

It shows its age, but it has a lot of atmosphere. It's the kind of motel that was common in these little mountain towns many years ago. It backs up to a big ponderosa pine covered hill, and the ice-cold San Juan River flows right along the side of the motel property.

I've stayed there several times, always in the old log cabins (by request). They're actually duplex cabins. The interiors are bare-bones "spartan", but very adequate. I didn't have any problems with the heat or anything as another traveler mentioned. But if you've previously stayed in old motels, you know that every room is a little quirky, and they don't seem to spend a lot on maintenance here. In fact, the motel property has been listed for sale for a number of years, but with things the way they are now, I think it will still be there for a while.

Bottom line, if you want Wi-Fi and up-to-date furnishings, pass on by and book a chain like the local Super 8 or Holiday Inn. But if you enjoy soaking up a little of the local old-time atmosphere (and aren't too picky), the San Juan Motel is an interesting place to stay for about the same price. Stayed there for a quick night's sleep. Room was fine - dated, but ok. Floors were dirty, needed a good vacuum. Also, a few hairs on the sink. Bathroom was ok.

Was a quiet place to stay, in the "new" rooms out back. "New" room must have been built on in the 1970s or so. Air conditioning was nice on a July summer night.

Good place to stay to crash, not worth remembering for more than that. Plenty of local restaurants within a short distance of motel.
