Description: As the town's longest running coffee house, Higher Grounds was established in 2004 with the goal of bringing the country's then-emerging craft coffee scene to the quaint mountain community of Pagosa Springs. Exclusively serving organic fair trade coffee, fresh in-house baked goods, and a curated selection of local beers & spirits, we continually strive to be THE destination for both locals and visitors.

Just a few words about my favorite coffee shop.... Have traveled all over the US of A and I love coming home to my hometown coffee shop... I always like the fact that not only are the coffee's consistently awesome but, the employees are cordial and kind.... It is a sign of the quality of establishment and ownership when year in and year out the same people are standing behind counter.... We own 2 business's in Pagosa Springs and always send our customers to Higher Grounds when they return they rave about our hometown Coffee Shop.....

As a local, I think Higher Grounds is the best coffee shop in town. The coffee is fabulous, always fresh and perfectly brewed. The atmosphere is very relaxing and is a good place to hang out, read or catch up on emails thru free wifi. The menu offers fresh and filling food. Everything I have eaten has been delicious. The owner is very friendly and is frequently around to talk with and the staff are always welcoming.

Recently, they have added beer, wine and special appetizers to their evening menu. I think it's a perfect touch for those wanting a comfortable place to relax who aren't quite in the mood for a restaurant.

There are fashion and specialty clothing retailers who frequently have events hosted there that are very fun to attend.

Higher Grounds is accessible by a walking path (and has a bike rack for those wanting to bike there) and at a great location near City Market and Wyndham, is worth checking out! I highly recommend it to any guests visiting who want the best cup of coffee in town.

Came here for a little local flare and wasn't disappointed. I tried the Chaco Chipotle sandwich and it was perfection. I couldn't stop eating it!! It was spicy and the bread was delicious, perfectly grilled. My daughter had hot chocolate and described it as polar express hot chocolate. They also served lots of coffees and wine. It had great ambiance and very comfortable. Definitely recommend.

Had coffee there twice, with breakfast in and to go on two mornings. Very friendly, great food and coffee, and small gifts and artists' works for sale also. Plenty of room to sit and visit, and loved the ham, cranberry sauce, honey mustard crepes for breakfast.

Went for breakfast, ordered a lemon & berry crepe. It was refrigerated overnight and very cold. They said it was supposed to be served cold, okay. The cream cheese inside was curdled like cottage cheese and the juice from the lemon and berries went through the bottom so the crepe was all soggy. Returned it and got a quiche which was very dry and tasteless. Also they only gave partial credit for the returned food. Try Boulder Cafe instead!
