“Pharmaceutical treasures, do not miss this”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

What a neat experience!! The pharmacist closed his store, and took us into his own personal museum. He was a pharmacist for many years, lived very frugally and saved money to fulfill his dreams. He has a very large collection of things from the past. A very unusual typewriter that pharmacists used that was really really old. Lots of cool old bottles filled with medicine. A very neat cigar store Indian, and many artifacts that might have been in an old time drug store. Well worth an hour of your time, and he is very interesting and passionate about his collection.

“Must See!”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

This is an unbelievable place. Quray is so beautiful in itself but this collection would be worth seeing no matter where you have to drive. We arrived late about 5:30 pm but when the pharmacist/owner/collector found that we were interested in the museum he happily locked the front door and and gave a private tour to our family of 6 to the museum in the back of the store. He was a wealth of knowledge and we enjoyed every story and the unique displays of our pharmaceutical history. Would recommend it to anyone. Kids under 12 would probably not find it as fascinating ours were a little bored but there were coloring books to keep them occupied. We thought the entrance fee was well worth it and we even bought T-shirts.

“Greatest Little Rx Museum!”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

This was a great find that was totally unexpected. I overheard two pharmacists say that they came to Ouray specifically to see the museum and this peaked my interest as an individual who has retired after working for years for a large pharmaceutical company. The museum "curator" and owner has a wealth of historical knowledge and is a collector of rare and interesting paraphernalia related to pharmaceuticals. He collects items from around the world, but focuses primarily in historical items from Colorado mining towns such as Aspen, Ouray and Silverton. He has a myriad of interesting stories to relate to visitors. This is a tour that you won't soon forget, even if you don't know a thing about prescriptions! Highly recommended.

“Cool items”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

This museum is at the back of the pharmacy the man owns and runs. If you want to see the museum, there is a $5.00 entrance fee for each person. He then closes the shop and opens the museum door for you to enter. He collection is very nice, but $5.00 a person was a bit much. I'm sure he had stories to tell, but out of the group of four adults, I was the only one willing to pay. I did not get the stories because he was trying to run the shop at the same time. I spent maybe 20-25 minutes in the room looking around.

“Historical gem”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

If you enjoy history, you'll absolutely love this museum. It's right on Main Street in Ouray, you have to look hard to see the sign. So much great history, and the personal tour by the owner, who used to be pharmacist, really helped the exhibits become alive. I loved learning some of the history about pharmacy's and pharmacists, how skilled they were, the books that held all of the prescriptions, the lack of regulation until the early 1900's which changed due to Teddy Roosevelt. The front part of the building is a store, and he shuts it down when he is giving the tour, it's definitely a hidden gem to put on your travel list. You may want to call in advance to schedule a tour, as the owner's personal touch makes the tour.
