Good ghost town tour. the store and antique things around it are fun to look at and good for old memories! Also BEAUTIFUL scenery on the drive up to the town! We'll camp along there next year! It would be wonderful if the town or the area would restore the buildings so you could go into them and really get a feel of what it was like then.

I've always wanted to visit the St. Elmo ghost town, near Buena Vista, CO and finally found the time last weekend. Since we were in the area (stayed overnight in Salida, CO) we drove back to St. Elmo. The drive was fine and the road in good shape (about 14 miles, 1/2 of it gravel), but when we arrived the place was hoping with both tourist and ATV enthusists. I guess I was a little disappointed that the chance of "discovery" was dashed. The place just felt over-run. One other thing, the only public restroom was just a pit-toilet on the outskirts of town.

I recommend going in mid-week.

Go to St. Elmo and Bring two quarters to buy a bag of sunflower seeds for the chipmunks. You will not regret it. They are so tame and gentle. Ghost town is very well preserved by the local historical society. The general store has some awesome antiques and souvenirs at very reasonable prices. They also have ice cream. The views on the road up from Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort were amazing.

Long ride from Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort in the pouring rain. Beautiful ghost town worth a visit when the sun is out.
