“Remains of the past history.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2012

Been to St. Elmo several times and every visit brings tears to my eyes. One of the last ghost towns
fading slowly away and it used to be very good attraction to the area. Few years ago the bldg. that
was Sheriff's jail was burned down by the vandals. The rest of the bldg. are in pretty bad shape and
nobody is thinking to reconstruct the town and preserve part of our history. Visitors come and go.
Taking photo's of the past area, kinds have fun with he chipmunks, adult are watching hummingbirds some visit the general store which is still open during the summer.
The weather is doing it's part in further destroying our past history.

“Best preserved ghost town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2011

Fun for short visit. Beautiful old buildings to take pictures, few are open for viewing. General store still in operation. In summer, the hummingbirds swarm each building and you can hand-feed the very spoiled chipmunks by the hundreds!
There is also ATV/Jeep rentals here because it is a main kick-off point for some of the best offroad and hiking trails in south-central Colorado.

“Just OK”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2011

Drove to St Elmo Ghost Town expecting to see a true Ghost Town. Nope! Most of the bldgs. are privately owned & have elec. wires & heating pipes attached to the houses. One bldg. is a store where you can get ice cream or a few souvenirs. Cute thing are the chipmunks! They are so spoiled though. They don't like peanuts! I bought some before going up there, but they didn't want them so we gave them to the pretty blue birds. Still an OK place to visit if you're near the area.
