Three of us rented a large cabin at Mt Princeton for over Christmas - we had a marvelous time. We came for a winter cabin experience. There was snow and ice on the ground, the air was crisp and clean, the sky bright blue. The cabin was very clean, the bedding cozy and comfortable, and the kitchenette area served our needs. Because we came in the winter we expected to wear sweaters and socks in the cabin. We were able to relax, enjoy the hot springs pools (bring appropriate foot wear), read, and listen to the creek next to our cabin. I had a great massage at the spa. We ate the resort buffet on Christmas day and the food was quite tasty. We also spent time in Salida wandering the streets, checking out the variety of shops and eating at the Laughing Ladies Restaurant and 216 Ferraro's Italian Restaurant - both were excellent.

We definitely plan to do this again, probably in the summer. We will also encourage the rest of our family to do a get-together at the resort.

Calling Mt. Princeton a resort is a real stretch. Stayed for Xmas Eve and Xmas day and we would never return again. Run down "motel style" rooms, unfriendly and aloof staff and by no means is the place "resort-like" in any way. (Beware some seriously misleading photos on the website.) Hot springs are laid out in a hodgepodge manner; restaurant is incredibly expensive with only a handful of tables and a very limited staff; the "bar" consists of about 4 barstools and a few round tables crammed into a tiny space near the "restaurant". We ate the Xmas dinner "feast" in a large building where the staff had transferred tables and the host/hostess podium---it felt like dinner in a church basement but at $30 a pop (alcohol not included). Also--the place is not designed for people to soak and relax. Having spent the day there while half of our party went skiing, we found no more than 10 spots to actually sit and relax. If you don't want to be in the water, there is no place to sit back and read, rest or wait.

We have been to many hot springs--ones that are much more resort-like and ones that we had to backpack 7 miles in to get to. This one is simply not worth your time and money. If you want to go to Buena Vista, try Cottonwood Hot Springs. There are limited places to actually stay on site (they had a fire and lost a good portion of their lodge) but Buena Vista is just down the road and the springs are well worth it: clean (much cleaner than Mt. Princeton) and designed in a fashion that makes each pool (and there are several of varying temperatures right next to each other) easy to get to. The view from Cottonwood of the mountains lends itself to some fabulous showings of wildlife (deer, big horn sheep) who come down close to the springs to graze.

Mt. Princeton's buildings and springs are clumped together in such an odd array that you miss the gorgeous setting all together. What a shame.

Room Tip: No real tip to a "good" room--most face the road to the front of the resort or the parking...

My family spent Xmas here and of course it was more expensive than usual. Our room was satisfactory buy nothing special. One older lady at the desk was more than gracious but the majority of the staff seemed bored and not overly helpful. The young man at the spa tried to double charge us for a massage, and was pretentious and rude. I wouldn't be overly enthusiastic about staying here again. The scenery is beautiful but there is minimal lighting at night around the pools, which can make it a bit dangerous as it is slippery from all the water.

Wonderful like-new cabins with lots of pools and natural hot springs, enclosed in a beautiful wintery valley across the Chalk Creek. Its Christmas Dinner buffet was delicious, and all venues had their own charming view to enjoy! We will definitely come back and stay longer!

Room Tip: Book ahead of time to avoid last-minute travelers to take best cabins (closer to the hot springs) aw...

The wife and I spent three nights for our 20th anniversary. We have been coming here about once a year for these two decades and love the area and the accommodations. The staff is friendly and really made us feel at home. The dining room host Gary was even kind enough to take some pictures of us so we could remember this special occasion.

Room Tip: The lodge has wifi and is conveniently located near the dining room and bar.

If you want to drive around a dump to find a hot tub like experience go for it. Location is a joke. 30 minute hike from motel 6 lodging. Not a resort. Not a rustic resort. Motel 6 equivalent. Jeanette should work in a morgue.

Dear Guest,

I apologize that your recent stay was dissatisfying. It is understandable that you may not have realized the distance from Hillside to the pools when booking. However, the distance is less than a quarter mile and walking paths are designated on the resort map.

Our all-natural Creekside pools, sauna, steam rooms, fitness classes, and soaking pools offer a variety of experiences beyond that of a standard hot tub.

While our alpine environment makes convenience a challenge at times, we feel the aesthetic quality and setting of the Collegiate Peaks offers a unique value in return. It is disappointing you did not share this view and that our efforts at appeasement we not agreeable to you.

Best wishes,

Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort Management

Wonderful isolated area for a winter retreat. The spa is well kept and friendly. Free restorative Yoga was an awesome treat. The restaurant is superb. Be sure to fuel up and bring food(if you don't plan on eating at the restaurant for every meal) as there isn't anything around and the nearest town is about 20 miles away. Salida was worth the trip! I recommend stopping by Woods Distillery and Moonlight Pizza. Head a few miles up to St.Elmo and see the ghost town!

Room Tip: The Cliffside has a patio and the Hillside are near the slide and best for families. If it's aff...
