“Another great visit to Mt. Princeton”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2011

This was our second year in a row to stay at the cabins at Mt. Princeton. This trip was just as enjoyable as the first. The cabin we stayed in was very clean and was huge for our family of 4. One of the nicest things about the cabins is the quality and cleanliness of the linens and towels. The beds are very comfortable and are as nice as any of the "fancy" hotels I've stayed at.

We made most of our meals at the cabin but did get to enjoy dinner one night at the lodge. The portions were huge and the service was quick and friendly. A nice treat from the simple meals were were making at the cabin.

Again this year, the family spent lots of time in the pools. The kids went down the water slide so many times, I started to wonder if they would ever want to leave. A couple of evenings after they went to bed, my wife walked down to the lower pools and enjoyed a soak in the guest only pools. I'm not much of a swimmer and was content to sit on the deck of the cabin and look up at the moon and stars and listen to Chalk Creek down below.

The best compliment that I can give Mt. Princeton is that as we were checking out, we made reservations for next year. We noticed many improvements and updates since were were there last year and look forward to seeing what has changed next year. The whole family has fallen in love with the area and cannot imagine going anywhere else for vacation.

My three sisters and I (from NJ, WA, and CO) stayed in a Cliffside room on June 24, 2011 after whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River. The room was HUGE, and beautiful, with a beautiful view. We had a great dinner in the lodge. Our waiter was so nice - very accomodating about some challenging dietary needs. The hot springs were soooo relaxing. The soaking pools could have had less debris, but the temps were soothing. Slept like a log with the sound of the Chalk Creek rising up from below. I have to say that the thing that I appreciated the most is that the landscaping is basically natural. We ate our breakfast on our veranda looking at native grasses and plants - no manicuring. This is NOT Disney World - THANK YOU. There is a manicured "landscaped" area near the lodge, presumably for weddings, ect. - very lovely, but thank you for not doing that to the whole place! By the way - the stars at night are incredible. AND - the price we paid at check out was $10.00 less than the price quoted when I reserved on line back in May. A GREAT PLACE!!

Room Tip: I booked a 6 weeks in advance to get the Cliffside room, which is on the side of the mountain over l...

The location is lovely, and easy to reach from major highways. Near enough to Buena Vista and Salida for outings or food. The hotel guest pools are nice enough, though the 3 small natural spring pools could be monitored a bit more. The hottest pool was scalding hot one day, and the coolest pool was rather undesireable to be in: full of algae and no benches to sit on. The large relaxation pool was "okay", but being shallow, it would be better to have some benches in the pool to help with the "relaxation". Our adult children spent some time at the water slide pool and enjoyed it. Our family of 5 stayed for 3 nights in two different cabins. We chose to switch cabins because the one we wanted was booked the first night. There was no accommodation made to store our belongings on the day of transfer. We had to pack up and move out of the first cabin, and then later in the day, check in again to move into the second cabin. I've stayed many places, not all 5 star, that are very happy to provide a secure area you can use in such circumstances. The first cabin was wayyyyy up on a hill. Nice view, but 10-15 walk down hill to the pools. Supposedly this cabin could accommodate 10 people, but the table only had 4 chairs. The second cabin was on the creek, which was a great location - but there are only a few cabins in that category. The bathroom was beautiful - linen new and good quality - the kitchen minimally furnished. Very little extra furnishings in the cabin for coziness - it was rather "stark". We had to go to the main desk to ask for extra coffee cups and glasses. This cabin is supposed to house 5 people, but we could easily have put 6 or 8 around the table. It appears things are being remodelled and upgraded, but they still have a ways to go to become the 5 star resort they are aspiring to. Internet is only available in the lobby area - rather inconvenient.

Room Tip: cabins 3 or 5 are creekside

I brought my three nephews and my mom who is disabled. Our cabin by the creek was awesome. We opened the windows each night and listed to the roar of the water, slept like I had not slept in months!

My mom loved the hot spring pools. I loved the scenery from wherever you were. I got in plenty of rest just letting my nephews age 11-14 climb up to the long slide over and over again.

Our cabin was new and had everything we needed. Great set up for a large group. We had deer come visit us each night and enjoyed the long nature hikes.

I have stayed at five star hotels all over the country and internationally and would rate this place a "rustic 5 star" staff was great, accomodations were great and again the beauty is amazing!

Room Tip: The creek cabins are wonderful!

What a fantastic getaway - even in the off season! Great restaurant, spectacular views, tons of wildlife up close and personal. We love the various pools and the large comfy green lounge chairs. When they allow you to lounge in the natural hot spring creek, there is nothing better! Sometimes in the summer months they will rope this off if runoff is too high. They're doing a lot of improvements to the property & the updated rooms are really nice. They're continually updating the lockers at the pools & should be great when complete. So much to do nearby!

Not terrible but I would probably go to Glenwood Springs instead. The kids pool was fun with a long water slide, but quite chilly in the wind. The water in Chalk Creek was high so the natural pools were not accessible. The grownup/guests only pool looked nice, but with kids we did not visit it. The pools were quite crowded [we were there for the weekend.] Restaurant service was exrtremely slow and the food was average. Our "poolside" room was not next to the pool and similar to the cheapest motel rooms I have ever stayed in, we could here everything in the adjacent room and the one window opens up against your car. Nice bed linens though. They seem to be expanding rapidly so hopefully it will improve over time.

The large pool and water slide had just opened the day before we arrived. Kids loved it. Spring runoff in Chalk Creek will prevent in-creek pool usage until later in summer. Beautiful improvements in new pools, decks, family cabins and conference facility since my last visit. Pool-side rooms are on a hill above the pool with slide. Not much to look at from outside but nicely appointed inside, great beds and big LCD TV. Resort continues to grow and improve - a huge improvement from the days of a single, murky pool and old hotel rooms.
