First time here, but not the last. Our friends have been there many times. There is a restaurant side and the pub side to he building. We were glad we sat on the pub side. Darker, rustic, small rooms....nice pub feel! The tea pots, water jugs and decorative porcelain bed pans hanging from the celling made for interesting conversation. We found the bar and decided on having the Speckled Hen beer...good choice! For starters we had: leek soup with bread....hot and delicious and the Spinach Rissotto....this too was excellent. The four of us had: shoulder of Lamb, Pork Belly, Moussaka, and the Fish and Chips. The all the meals came hot and with a large side fish of vegetables; nicely steamed and not over cooked. The lamb came with a square of 'scallop potatoes', which I did not care for. The currant sauce was interesting, I enjoyed it. All the food smelt good, looked appealing; and at the end of the meal the plates were bare. A good sign everybody enjoyed their food. With little room left for dessert we shared a lemon tart. Excellent! The cost was just under 100£. A good evening out. Noony our server was excellent, checking in on us several times. We will be back!

We have been using The Royal Oak for over 6 years and one things that stands out is consistency always good .A varied menu with a good specials board .Great baked shoulder of lamb comes with different sauce depending on the time of year.Steaks are good, which can be served with various sauces ,the pepper is one of the best i have tasted.Main courses are served with a good selection of seasonal vegetables homemade chips or potatoes. The menu changes 3-4 times a year to take into account seasonal foods .The staff are attentive and welcoming. It does get busy and it is advisable to book

The hangover is inevitable, but albeit enjoyable. Given that the atmosphere is reminiscent of a scene from the musical Oliver, I always finding myself disappoint leaving that the pub has not erupted into a rendition of "Oom Pah Pah"!

This is a great pub, full of character. There was a varied menu, reasonably priced, with further options on the specials board, so something to please everyone. The food was faultless - mixed grill including steak cooked to perfection, baked salmon and chicken wrapped in parma ham with side dishes. Our two desserts - the lemon tart and (my favourite) dark chocolate & cherry cheesecake were to die for. The service was excellent and staff were extremely good. Would definitely recommend trying if you haven't already.
