A beautiful converted dairy farm with disabled access.
My first time abroad since my injury. And wanting to find a place which all the family would be comfortable. Plus for myself to be have easy access for my wheelchair and to utilise a downstairs bedroom and wet room.
The downstairs provided a great size kitchen combined with open lounge. The large dining table and kitchen units can be accessed with a wheelchair.
The bedroom downstairs (no hoist in the bedroom) off from the kitchen/dinning room was an excellent size. Which had the wet room again a very good size. The door widths were ample for my wheelchair which I use a (20” width seat)with the light switches and sockets higher up to access easily.
The location is also very good. Being placed near a beautiful fishing harbour Grandcamp-Maisy. Which has restaurants (La Trinquette a personal favourite and can accommodate wheelchair access), charcuterie, Patisserie etc. Plus a fish market which is on virtually everyday. And easy to travel to a lot of sights including all the 2nd WW areas. Omaha beach was a great beach but can be tricky for proper access for wheelchair users. There is a small beach in Grandcamp-Maisy with limited parking. But the sand merges from the car park onto the sand.
I must also have to say the owners Hillary and Patrick which live on site are a lovely couple which run the 2 holiday lets. They saw that I was using my wheelchair and Patrick really put himself out to level off 2 pathways which helped with access for my wheelchair.
A nice and comforting situation is if any problems came up then Patrick was there to put any issues like maintenance problems fixed straight away. Plus many thanks for fixing my Freewheel which I had a bolt broken off!
Plus lovely fresh eggs from their chickens!
Overall I would highly recommend Le Champlain at Le Vermont for anyone using a wheelchair or difficulty of walking.
We would definitely return again in the future!
Beautifully appointed gîte, exceptionally well equipped and in a perfect location. This great three bedroom cottage is perfect for a family, superbly well equipped and in a great location right in the heart of the Normandy landings' beaches. But what vastly exceeds both the house and location is the owners' welcome; Hilary and Patrick are two of the kindest, most helpful and welcoming people you'll ever meet, from plums from their trees to eggs from their chickens they are exceptionally kind and do their utmost to make your stay special. I strongly recommend this gîte for anyone looking for a base to visit the beaches and our kids loved it too. We'll definitely be back!
We had another wonderful 10 days at the Champlain - very comfortable, clean accommodation and very well equipped. The Gite is in a great location for visiting WW11 sites and close to the Normandy beaches. You are made to feel really welcome by the perfect hosts Hilary and Patrick. Thank you for a fabulous time, see you next year!
From the moment we opened the door we knew this house was going to be good. The attention to detail and cleanliness was superb. It is well kited out and peaceful and quiet. Patrick and Hilary were superb hosts and let us pick fruit and veg for our tea from their allotment. Cant say enough how we loved this place and cant wait till we go back to see there lovely mad dogs and three legged cat also.
We wanted to take our greataunt to Normandy. Being with a group of 7, trying to book for a relative busy period wasn't easy. Luckily I've found the Champlain at Le Vermont near Vierville sur mer and it was everything we wanted. The house itself was great, lots of room, clean, beautiful bathrooms and a lovery garden where everyone could chill, hang or even eat. We also loved the two dogs, seeing the farm itself and we did enjoy being so close to the sea. You can easily walk to the see and see the sun go under.
The surroundings are amazing as well. Since the most of us had already visited Normandy a couple of times we knew exactly where to go. Point du hoc, St Mere Eglise, Omaha en Utah is really close.
Hilary and Patrick, thanks so much for welcoming us onto your farm!
Everyone was so enthusiast and I'm pretty sure we will return
Le Vermont provides great accommodations in a wonderful area particularly convenient if you are interested in visiting the D-Day beaches. Everything you need is provided, and while we don't generally cook any meals while on vacation (although we buy breakfast and snack items), if we had chosen to do so, everything was there we might have needed. Several nearby charming small towns provide good options for grocery shopping and for restaurants, and Hilary and Patrick are wonderful hosts! They filled us in on where to find everything locally we might need, and Hilary was happy to recommend restaurants and make reservations for us as needed. The rental unit is very comfortable and spacious, and the ambiance of the location, the warmth of the hosts and their two dogs and two cats, created a stay for us that was memorable and completely enjoyable. Highly recommended!
Having just returned from our biking holiday in Normandy with friends, this was without a doubt one of the best holiday accommodations that we have stayed in. The Gite, which has been finished by the owners to a very high standard, is a real hidden gem!
Not only is Le Champlain located in lovely rural surroundings, but the property itself has its own beautiful extensive gardens, incorporating not only an orchard and pond, for the 2 dogs, 2 cats, geese and hens, but also a walled garden containing three large vegetable plots which had everything from carrots, swedes, beetroot to lots of varieties of home grown fruits!
Hilary and Patrick, the owners of the Gite, are the most friendly, kind and gracious hosts that you could ever hope to meet. Their hospitality from the moment we arrived to the morning of our departure was exemplary and went above and beyond any of our expectations.
Our gite had its own garden area with outdoor screened patio, bbq, seating area and a few relaxing hammocks and sun loungers.....ideal for relaxing on during those warm summer evenings!
The Gite consisted of two levels with the top level having a family bathroom and two beautiful bedrooms which had fantastic views of the lovely extensive gardens. The downstairs consisted of another massive double bedroom with a beautiful wet room and a large living room/fully equipped kitchen which had everything you could possibly need or want.
We cannot recommend this property highly enough and will certainly be returning at some point on our bike travels.
Hilary and Patrick until we meet again Au Revoir
