This was an excellent hike/incline. I started at 5:30am in the morning and it was already busy with fellow climbers! The incline is not for the faint of heart ..and for me coming from a low altitude home this was extra special hard ...just remember to breath and enjoy the view from the top! ...and the jog back down the trail :)

Safety is an issue due to the very loose gravel, large holes, dogs not on leashes, rotten railroad ties, & steep steps.
All that to the side the view is breathtaking, challenge is great, & sense of accomplishment when you finish is priceless.
You must bring water, repeat bring water there is NONE during the whole climb. Please clean up after your dog or yourself if you throw up. Most import take your time or the 2000 ft. Elevation change will make you pass out.

On our way to Denver, we stopped in Manitou Springs to hike the Incline. It's an intense hike that takes about an hour to complete. The trail is a little less than a mile long, but climbs from 6,800 to 8,800 feet straight up the mountain, and is a great workout if you are in relatively good shape. Since your climbing up old railroad ties, parts of the trail are very steep and uneven.

About 2/3 the way up there is a ‘bailout’ that ties into the Barr Trail, and about 3/4 of the way up there is a ‘false summit’ where you think you’re close to the top but instead the trail keeps going. Once you reach the top, you can relax on some rocks and take in the beautiful view before heading down the Barr Trail, which consists of about 4 miles of downhill switchbacks.

Tip - wear light, comfortable clothes and bring a towel, lots of water and light snacks (like granola bars and fruit) and pace yourself on the trail.

We made a side trip while in Colorado Springs and made our way to Manitou Springs. The city itself is full of places to eat and places to shop. It is a nice little quiet town and is great to drive through. We made our way to the incline and parked our car, which was only $1 for one hour, and walked to the base of the incline. None of the people in our party where physically fit enough to make our way up the incline, but the view is great. This is a great side stop if you are looking for things to do around this area. The incline itself can easily be seen in the mountain views from Colorado Springs.

This is a great workout with a beautiful view at the top! Its hard but I loved it, would do it again, to bad I live in Norway. 1 mile straight up, you should be in ok shape before doing this.
