“Overpriced, rundown, smelly, etc.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2011

The cabins were run down, dirty and smelled horrible. Nothing would get rid of the smell, we tried air freshener, opening the doors and windows but nothing worked. The air conditioners were loud and didn't really cool the two rooms but the noise of them did help drown out the highway noise. The beds were uncomfortable and mismatched. The first night we were there our kids were playing with their toys on the floor, when they got up, the tops of their feet were dirty from the carpet. The daily housekeeping was really nothing more than they brought in clean towels and sometimes made the beds. The website says that the rooms all come with coffee maker, iron, ironing boards etc. We had to ask for those basic items.

When I got there I thought that by what the website said was that it was going to have a mountain view.. Well apparently it did not.. It was view of the highway which was actually right next to it. The outside was nice but not quite as cabin like as I was expecting. Once you get into the rooms they are smelly! I even had incense in my car that I had to keep lighting and the smell would still not subside. The beds were not comfortable at all and were as hard as a rock! No wireless so my BF and I could not use our computers at the same time. Checkout time is 10:30. We checked out at 11:30 and we were charged the deposit for being an hour over. And the Man, Owner said he was not going to give me my deposit back because he was not making any profit from me. They did not care about my concern's and I left there very upset! It has somewhat of a mountain get away but I was pleasantly disappointed. The man at the front desk was very mean and rude!!!

Mountains are viewable from most of the cabins inside. The adobe cabins are located within four acres of land. The swimming pool, hot tub, basketball hoop, children's playgound, volleyball court, schuffleboard, horseshoes and outdoor pavillion area have mountain views. The cabins were built in 1926. Ethernet cables are supplied in all cabins for complimentary internet access. The guest did not check-out until 1:00 p.m. They had refused to check-out at 10:30 a.m. due to a late party night. They were sleeping late. Had they requested a late check-out, we would have permitted one until noon. Our staff was being paid to wait for the cabin to be vacated. New guests were arriving.

Basic place but accommodating for a family of six. Pool is huge & cold! Nice rec area for kids. Well maintained property but remember lotsa a motor court style lodge not a four star place. We had a stocked full kitchen and grill outside. A wonderful stay but just a bit more price wise than expected. Worth a stay.

This "lodge" looks nice from the outside with very appealing Southwestern, pueblo-style architecture, BUT the room we were in was very outdated, old and musty-smelling - especially the bathroom. I had to keep spraying room fragrance in it and that hardly helped. The bathroom was also very tiny and there were no other mirrors in the room which made it difficult for 4 people to get ready in the morning. They had no breakfast available here but we did walk across the street for a pretty good breakfast. The room we were in was also close to the main road so we could hear the traffic all night. The only good thing about this place was you have your own "cabin" with a full kitchenette and our teenagers had their own separate room. We would not stay here again, though.

Our experience at El Colorado was absolutely relaxing and enjoyable! Our family, of two younger children and two teenagers, was totally pleased, especially with the pool and hot tub! The cabins are extremely clean and comfortable, and the friendly staff makes the stay worth while and well remembered. We highly recommend staying here and we plan to come back!

This is a very nice place to stay to get away from the big chain motels. The rooms were very clean and the folks there were friendly. We wish we could have stayed longer.

We recently stayed at the El Colorado Lodge and would never, ever stay there again.El Colorado Lodge advertises a mountain view. The only view we had was over the top of the nicer hotel next door. However, we could clearly see the busy highway right in front of us! Inside the cabin was shabby and rundown. The comforters on the beds were worn, the microwave was not powerful enough to pop a bag of popcorn, the tv cable went in and out, and the carpet was old. The bathroom was even worse. The shower had little water pressure and the temperature was hard to control; there was also a bad odor. The grounds were neglected. The pool was a nice size but needed a good cleaning. Outdoor lighting didn't work, there were toys scattered all over, and litter and trash needed to be cleaned up. The wi-fi didn't reach to our room. It could be used right outside the office.
Once we checked in, it became apparent our goal was to spend as much time away from the lodge as possible. We loved Garden of the Gods, Pike's Peak, the Royal Gorge, white water rafting, Helen Hunt Falls, and the North Pole. We would definitely come back to Colorado Springs again, but I would never in a million years stay at this establishment again!
