“Wonderful Staff, Beautiful Hotel”
Reviewed December 27, 2011

The staff at the Cliff House are absolutely wonderful. I have stayed in many hotels and the folks here are some of the best, period.

Let’s start off with our room. We had chosen one of the smaller rooms but it was comfortable and most importantly…clean. The bathroom was nice but you could tell the fixtures and especially the whirlpool tub was starting to age. The only disappointment during our stay was the fireplace in our room. We were expecting to have flames similar to those in the other gas operated fireplaces in the common areas but the flame was weak and barely visible. We dined several times during our stay and the food was always wonderful, including the free breakfast. The hotel is in a great location. Within minutes you can walk to many nice shops, restaurants and bars.

I would highly recommend The Cliff House. Kristin and the rest of the staff made our trip there one of our most enjoyable!

Staying at the Cliff House was an unbelievable experience. The price of the room was too low considering the service you received. First off tips are included in the price of the room. Didn't realize this until day three so the staff were extra helpful! Concierge parking, turndown service, and fantastic front desk staff. The breakfast buffet was average but we were always hitting the tail end. My wife and I only had supper there the one evening and couldn't believe how inexpensive it was for such a well prepared meal.

The only complaint I had was about the activities person. Phoned three times and did not hear back. The welcome package that was in the room was helpful enough to book a few activities but it would have been nice to have some help.

Manitou Springs is our favorite getaway (from Boulder), and the Cliff House is what we most look forward to. We came this Thanksgiving and, once more, we were not disappointed.
- Great room, full of old-time character, yet all the modern comforts
- Free DVD movies (watched 3)
- Extensive vegetarian menu (no need to feel left out when everyone's eating turkey!)
- Very helpful staff
- Good breakfast (included)
- Smack in the middle of town
- Luxury for less than we'd pay at a ho hum chain hotel
We'll be back!

We came and stayed last Christmas (2010). It's so hard to believe how fast the year has gone. Our stay at The Cliff House was magical. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The service was friendly, helpful and made us want to stay longer. The Cliff House was beautifully decorated and made our Christmas dreams of America come true.
If we ever make it to the USA again, we would love to come and stay again.

We've been staying at the Cliff House in Manitou Springs for 8 years. We've used it's hotel as a romantic special getaway for ourselves and as a retreat for our staff. We have also given a night away to friends as a special treat. This hotel has been in my opinion one of the finest boutique hotels you can find in Colorado. But somewhere in the past little while the hotel is slipping. We enjoy the Premier Celebrity Suites. This stay we were given the Pershing Suite. In the past ithis hotel has been flawless in it's appearance and presentation. Our last few stays have been growing in disappointment. Most notably is the room and the service? Our room has several things that maintain e just isn't keeping up with. The Oak trip on the ceiling has fallen off and was just left hanging. The shower is missing it's handle. The blinds are mismatched and broken. The fireplace grill is bent and broken. then the bugs. Two good size Beetles ended up visiting us in the middle of the night. Service is another area for comment. Good but not great and for a hotel that charges premium rates ($300+) and has prided itself on service it's disappointing to feel like you're a burden between phone calls at the front desk to be helped.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review.

We've addressed all the areas of concern. The Boxelder Bugs that you mentioned are a once-a-year phenomenon, which lasts approx: 1 week every fall.

Thanks again for your comments.

WE spent two nights at this wonderful Victorian Hotel in early October. We were in Colorado for our nieces wedding in Evergreen and decided to visit the state for a couple of days before hand. We visited the Air Force Academy and the Garden of the Gods before arriving at the Cliff House. We had a great lunch on the front porch and watched as the leaves were beginning to fall. Our room was very nice and the attention to details was appreciated. The history of the hotel was very interesting.
We ate a restaurant on Main Street Adam's (good) and had a late coffee in the hotel living room before retiring. Breakfast in the dining room was ample and the service great. We took off to drive up to Pike's Peak but only made it to the 11,000 level and hit snow and sleet. It was unbelieveable. The town was un crowded as the tourist season was almost over but we thought the hotel was worth the visit.

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed to be good. We enjoyed the room on the back side of the hotel so there would be...

We stayed at this wonderful hotel for Saturday night and certainly would have enjoyed another night. The location is excellent, and you can walk to all the shops within minutes. I was impressed with how quiet the rooms were. Some old hotels are creaky and noisy, but I never heard another person while we were in our room. We had a king suite with a sitting area and a nice view of the mountains. The instructions for the large jetted tub were quite simple, but it still took us awhile to figure out how it worked. I loved the heated toilet seats, which I have only ever seen in Japan. We had dinner in the fireplace room which was a smaller room off the main dining room and was more intimate. The dinner was very nice-lovely presentation- and the wine was a wonderful addition. The wine menu was the most extensive I have ever seen. The breakfast buffet the next morning was included and was very good.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
What makes a hotel truly special?Prestige? Romance? Luxury? As a four diamond Colorado Springs Hotel, these attributes are very important, and we have each of them in abundance, but none of them matter as much as... the stories. The stories that are started here, by brides and grooms celebrating their weddings. The stories that are commemorated here, when couples choose us for their anniversaries. The stories that are shared here, when family vacations become unforgettable memories. Our stories really do matter: they define who we are. You see, as the premier historic hotel of the Greater Colorado Springs area, our history is forever intertwined with what we are today. In fact, The Cliff House is older than the State of Colorado itself! And just like your story, we have had our ups and downs: we have played host to famous dignitaries, and we have been a barracks for soldiers. Later floods and fires have even threatened our hotel's very existence. But, just like you, we've persevered. After our extensive remodel and grand re-opening in 1999, we quickly proved that The Cliff House is once again one of Colorado's finest luxury hotels. Nestled at the foot of majestic Pikes Peak, we've managed to keep all the trappings of Victorian elegance and luxury and also become a leader in innovative room features with state-of-the-art technology. Since 2001, we've consecutively received the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award for both the hotel and our dining room. Our dining room has also received the DiRoNa Award, and Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence, every year. From our world-class fine dining, our amazing rooms, personalized service, our fun new bar and grill, to the limitless experiences and activities Manitou Springs has to offer: we are confident that you will love your stay here... and what a story you'll have to tell! We're proud of our history. Come share yours with us! We're within ten minutes of downtown Colorado Springs, but (rest assured) a world away! ... more   less
