I was here Sept. 16-23, during adult month (September) and it was one of the BEST vacations I’ve ever been on. My perfect holiday started as soon as I landed in Durango. The ranch sends a van to pick you up along with other guests for the 6-night stay. From then on, everything – food and all activities – was included.
Robert, the owner, is very hands-on and sees to all details. His passion about his ranch is evident and he puts his guests’ needs and comfort at the utmost importance. He made sure everyone has a good time!
I stayed in a room named Gawthrop, one of the newly-renovated suites. The room is super-clean and has a nice rustic décor. My room features a king-size Tempurpedic beds (ahh, heavenly) and a great shower/bathroom. There are no TVs in any of the rooms , which is great. There are no room keys either -- you lock your valuables in your in-room safe. The ranch does have internet access and pretty good cell reception. But why bother? You are there to enjoy the great outdoors.
The ranch definitely does not skimp on food. We got three square meals a day with dishes ranging from ribs (delicious!), mahi mahi/shrimp, chili, angus burgers and hot dogs, spaghetti , stew – and these are just dinners! All meals are accompanied by fresh salads, fruit, and dessert. Not to mention, there is a bottom-less cookie jar that is accessible 24-hours a day -- woohoo! Majestic – you fed me well. For those who are vegetarian or have food restrictions, just let them know and they can accommodate.
As for the activities available while on the ranch? It’s so much more than just horse-back riding: archery, clay-pigeon shooting, fly-fishing, mountain biking, hiking, kayaking. I also learned line-dancing, did karaoke one night and watched the movie “True Grit” on the big screen under the stars.
Overall, I met and made many friends on this vacation. Great people, great staff, good old fashion fun with modern amenities, in some of the most beautiful areas in the U.S. Highly, highly recommended!
