Description: The Absolute Bakery and Cafe, is located in downtown Mancos, Colorado, just two blocks south of the town's only traffic light. We bake and cook everything from scratch, using organic, local and fresh ingredients. It's all homemade: from the eggs and hashbrowns, to eclectic soups and salads with our own delicious dressings, pastas from different parts of Europe, and our own red and green chile sauces in a wide variety of Southwestern fare. If you're needing a quick pick-me-up, we have a full coffee and espresso bar featuring locally roasted, fair-trade, organic coffees. The ABC offers you a fine-dining experience without the glitter. Enter the one hundred year-old Bauer Bank Building and immediately you are tantalized by the aromas of fresh breads and pastries coming hot from the oven. Our friendly waitstaff greet you with smiles. The vintage decorative tin ceiling, a variety of tables and chairs, the local artwork adorning the walls, as well as a great selection of used books for your browsing pleasure add to the unique, eclectic and cozy atmosphere that is so inviting to both locals and visitors.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a resident of the Durango area who said there wasn't a better breakfast place around. That endorsement meant that we had to try it on our way to Mesa Verde National Park.. We were not disappointed. We both ordered "the stack" which ranks as the best meal we had on our long 17 day road trip. My husband also ordered a cinnamon roll that was delicious . The service was slow, but the coffee was self serve and there was plenty of it. I highly recommend this popular gathering spot in this attractive little town. It is about a block or two south of the only stoplight in town.

For all you travelers out there .... pretend you're a "local" and go by Absolute Bakery in Mancos, Colorado. You won't be sorry. The menu has a number of unique, healthy oriented choices and the place has a central coffee bar with 4-5 choices of java from strong to mild plus decaf. After enjoying a wonderful breakfast you get to go to the cash register with the bakery case right next door. I suspect 80-90% of those paying their bills add an item or two in a "to go" bag .... from fresh cinnamon rolls (if there are any left) to cherry turnovers, the bakery case is simply incredible and irresistible. There is obviously a reason they make you walk up there to pay! Try it .... you'll LOVE it.

Excellent home cooked food. This place is a gem. Staff extremely welcoming and helpful.
Everything we saw and tasted was fresh and well presented.

Note 1: ask advice on portion size before you order - they are very generous. You may need a small helping!

Note 2: Buy some fresh bread on the way out.

We turned off the freeway into Mancos to see whether there was anywhere we could get lunch on our way to Mesa Verde National Park. The Absolute Bakery & Cafe drew us in, and we were so glad we ate there. They were very busy while we were there, so we did have to wait awhile to get our food, but it was totally worth it. Our sandwiches, served on bread they bake themselves, were excellent, and the freshly made potato salad and cole slaw served with them were both very good. While waiting, we enjoyed looking around at the funky and eclectic items on display throughout the restaurant. This particular trip was a month long, and we agreed that this was one of our two favorite meals during our entire trip. Of course, we had to buy two goodies from the bakery case when we left. When we indulged ourselves with them later in the day, we wished we had bought more. Absolute is absolutely worth the the stop. When there, visit the local artists gift shop next door -- one of the best assortments of art and craft products I have seen, and all reasonably priced.
