The atmosphere is well appointed, the clientele is local and lively. This is a historic saloon and maintains this character.

The atmosphere of the oldest saloon in Leadville was interesting, however the food was nothing to brag about. Stop in a look around, order a drink, but eat somewhere else.

Been here before, but this time the bartender was so stoned she couldn't make change for a dollar. Seriously!

When there for lunch on July 22,2014. We seated ourselves. Then a party of 4 arrived. Waitress waited on them first. We had to ask for her to wait on us.
I ordered chicken salad on rye. I received it on white bread. Waitress said they were out of rye bread. Bread was toasted-very dark in the center. Had to ask for silverware to cut the sandwich. One knife was the only silverware either of us received. The edges of the bread were not toasted and were wet and soggy. There pickle and lettuce were missing. The salad was made with chopped carrots.
My husband ordered the Italian sausage sub. The sandwich was "OK". He also ordered French fries. These were dark in color, hard on the inside, and cold.
Waitress did remove the charge for the chicken salad and the fries.

We went in just because it has been open since 1879, when there were gold and silver mines in the area and Leadville, CO was one of the largest towns in CO. I only had a beer there, Alaska amber ale, so we don't know what the food tastes like. The bar and the mirror behind the bar are original.
