“Lots of History on the Menu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2014 via mobile

I had the homemade Cream of Mushroom Soup and it was thick and tasty. The entree was the Brats with Pickled Cabbage. The flavor was good, but the presentation was very blah. Other entrees did look quite good. Waitstaff was very friendly. Service was very good.

“Good food.”

Great service and meals at very reasonable prices. Quaint premises with lots of local people there. Nothing to dislike.

“If you want bland previously frozen food, go here!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2014

We decided on this place because it was one of the few places open later in the evening. The waitress bragged about the chicken fried steak, so we ordered 2 of them, a chicken strip dinner for my daughter (which only comes with 1 strip), and a fried chicken plate. We also ordered chips and salsa, which was below average. The chicken fired steaks were nothing but a previously frozen patty that was re-deep fried to warm it up. It was tasteless. The gravy was obviously made from a powdered package. The "steamed" vegetables were extremely bland and were obviously from a frozen package as well. The sauce that was "poured" over the vegetables tasted like it came from a mac and cheese packet. The fried chicken came out to quick to be fresh and was very bland. The only really good part of the meal was the hawaiian rolls that came with each meals. Later in our trip, a few of the locals were very quick to steer anybody away from the Golden Burro. Find another place in town and save your money!!

“Best Breakfast and History Lesson”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2014

We were told that the Golden Burro had the best breakfast in town. It's the only breakfast we have tried here in Leadville and was delightful. Just the menu alone was a treat with all the history of the Leadville area. In addition there are historical photos all around the restaurant and lounge. The staff is outstanding, friendly, helpful. The meal was a nice size portion and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed and probably overstayed as we so enjoyed reading the history and viewing the photos.

Want to return and try their lunch as the menu looks wonderful.

“A must before or after enjoying Ski-Joring in Leadville”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2014 via mobile

One of the most unique winter sports in the Rocky Mountains Is Ski-Joring ...really fast horses /riders towing skiers over a snow course with jumps and turns right down Main Street which closes two days in early March each year for this event.

But to catch breakfast , lunch or dinner at the Burro is an added treat because the menu is extensive , drinks are very good and reasonable, especially the $ 6 ! Very large and vegetable adorned Bloody Mary's prepared just to your liking.

The place is always crowded , and service tends to be a little slow, but each meal comes to the table piping hot. Try the Chili Relleno on the Mexican menu, or the fried chicken ,or the meatloaf as well as the fried onion rings.

If you want the best, most inexpensive steak dinner in the mountains , try Quincy's right down the street.
