Many years ago we stayed regularly at the Blue Spruce on our many trips to Lamar. And then a change of ownership and it seemed the place went downhill. We've tried it again based on recent reviews and found it suitable for our needs and it appears some upgrades have been made. It's clean enough although the furnishings in our room were pretty worn. Our only complaint (if you could call it that) was we wish the owner would have been a bit more welcoming or at least acknowledge gratitude for our business.
The free breakfast is very basic but it's nice to have hot coffee.

We WELCOME your business and thank you for staying with us. No matter what, for us the guest is our sole source of income and we take pride and honer in serving them, may be sometimes the gratitude is expressed quietly. BREAKFAST - For the price charged compared to other motels in town our breakfast (Muffins, Honeybuns, Eggs, 3 Cereals, Milk, Juice, Bread/Toast, Coffee, Tea Assortement, Hotchocolate) is decent, hygenic and sufficient. Well, once again thank you for your patronage. Best Regards.

Our room was clean, large, and quiet. It had a quiet ceiling fan in addition to the air conditioning and heat. The fan is a definite plus. It is an older 60's or 70's motel, but is kept up and has surprisingly elegant furniture - not institutional. There was an adequate continental breakfast. It was a great value.

Its nice to know that our guests appreciate the hardwork put into making their stay comfortable. We are the first motel in town to provide Play-Area for kids, Fans in Room, Wi-Fi. We learned these requirement from our own travel experience. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR NOTICING THINGS SO CAREFULLY. Best Wishes.

This is not a fancy, elegant hotel. It is, however, a spotlessly clean motel that made us fondly recall roadtrips of the 50s and 60s. They were installing new carpet in other rooms while we were there, and our room already had new carpet. Bathroom flooring was either brand new or cleaned to perfection. Check-in was fun and pleasant. A colorful playground and clean pool were perfect for families. We had a fridge and microwave in our room, and yes, they, too were spotless. The owners of this motel are doing everything they can to update and maintain this property, while keeping that kitschy retro appeal. And the rates could not be beat! We later spoke to a lady in a nearby town who arranges for her international birdwatching groups to stay at the Blue Spruce, and she told us she's never heard a complaint. We travel a good deal, and have never paid so little for so much in terms of lodging.

Thank you for acknowledging the things that we do. To remain fresh a river has to flow, always and that's what we do to keep above the competetion. Any genuine complaint is taken very seriously as we work very hard to maintain our reputation and do not want it tarnished by lapses that are easily avoidable. Warm Wishes!

If your travels bring you to Lamar, Co this is THE place to stay. Our group of 45 was part of the Cal Ripken 10 Year Old World Series. There were a total of 10 teams that stayed in different hotels all within Lamar and based on conversations with many of the other teams, the Blue Spruce is by far the best place to stay.
The owner's Anis & Bina were great. The rooms were clean, and the beds were comfortable. Rates were reasonable. Cereal, toast and hardboiled eggs are served for breakfast. The motel has a small pool which was cleaned everyday and the water was clear. We stayed there for 10 days and Anis & Bina did a great job with our group.

We were in town for a softball tournament. We had 13 families that had to stay with their children (mostly teenagers). From the time I booked the rooms to our check-out date the staff was very helpful.

Rooms were very clean, spacious, and the kids really enjoyed the pool and play area. You can tell that the owners take great pride in providing the best lodging experience possible.

If you are looking for a 5 star hotel then drive north to Denver. However, if you are in the area and are looking for a clean, comfortable, and affordable room to spend one night or several, I would reccomend staying here.

Thank you for staying with us, it was a great honor for us to take care of the whole team and specially those kids. We feel every kid very close to our heart and attached personally with their win and loss during the tournament. GOOD LUCK for the team.
