The Village Roaster is a great spot for coffee and teas. I tend to forget about the robust flavor of their coffee until I have gone somewhere else or asked my wife to pick some up at Costco (which is really not bad either, just not nearly as fresh and "lively" of a taste as the Roaster). They are very quick to help with selection and any questions and always have a very personable/friendly attitude. They hand roast their beans; I think they are roasting one bean or another daily- and it shows in the taste and flavor.
I have known the owners on a first name basis for some years and even after not being in the store for a while, and seeing them, again, both Jim and Kathleen remembered me by name. I am not saying they will remember every customer individually, but I would not be surprised if they did have a very good working knowledge of all their customers.
If there is a knock on the Roaster, it is the lack of space for sitting or spreading out. I have had some meetings here and just felt a little uncomfortable in the setting, but frankly, if you just wanted to have a seat, assuming there was one available, and drink some coffee, it's fine.
Finally, if you are a coffee affectionado, then this a wonderful store to help you experiment and try different blends or brewing methods.
You will agree it is a wonderful "find" in the middle of Lakewood.
