“Home away from home....”

While looking for lodging in the Silverton/Lake City area, we stumbled upon the Castle Lakes Campground and Cabins. As we were traveling with 3 children under the age of 8 and a couple of dogs, we opted to rent one of the pet friendly cabins. We were impressed with the location (beautiful!) and friendliness of the staff and owners. The cabin was spotless and had a fully equipped kitchen. We look forward to our next visit!

We have been going to Castle Lakes for some 20yrs. We make a trip there every June and September. The sites are very spaceous and you are not cramed right next to another trailer. It is beautiful any time of the year. Steve and Monica are wonderful people and will do anything they can to make you feel comfortable. They greet us with a hug and smile each time we return. You can ride you ATV's right out from your site to travel the Alpine Loop. There are many trail you can access right from the campground. Most riders are very courteous. We suggest this campgound to everyone we talk to about camping.

We have been coming here for 9 years and we stay all summer. You will never find two people, Steve & Monica, that will try everything to make your stay fun and comfortable. Yes, their guest consist of campers that love their ATVs and dirt bikes. Their location is just so condusive for this activity. Most people follow their rules about these vehicles but as always you will get people that think rules don't apply to them. I don't see how Steve and Monica manage to stay so sweet to these rude "The World Revoles Around Me" people. We feel very fortuneate to have found this paradise and hope to coninue to enjoy it for years to come.

Notice how in the other review "Peaceful Stay" the poster writes how they could "ride their ATV right from their cabin"? As far as I can tell that is what this place is all about. If you are into camping at what sounds like a NASCAR track buzzing with ATV's, this place is for you.

Unfortunately, I have to also disagree with the previous poster about the owners clamping down on unruly guests. To me, when your party of 10 decides to motor out on their ATV's at 5AM and proceeds to idle their engines and load trailers for 2 hours thats plenty of time for the owners to clamp down.

Also, you cant swim in the lake.

If this campground was the only option around it might be one thing, but there are probably a 1/2 dozen nice national forest campgrounds within 10 minute drive.

The actual tent spots are pretty crummy too; a not-close-to-level table in a cramped spot with no grass anywhere.

In my opinion, if you are tenting it, try the national forest spots.

We stayed in a cabin at Castle Lakes Campground. It was pet-friendly, and right on the Alpine Loop, so that's why we chose this place. They are very organized, clean, and efficient. They do not tolerate unruly guests, hence the "peaceful visit" we had. We were able to walk right out of our cabin to 2 private fishing areas (one fly-fishing only, one regular fishing/both for $5 per day, no license required). We also were able to ride our ATV's directly from our cabin, which was nice and saved time/trouble of trailering to a launch site. They have a nice convenience store on-site, that sells all kinds of fishing needs as well as breakfast items and snacks. The owners were very nice and friendly. Most per-friendly places in Lake City (there are very few) are older and located in town. We have had some bad experiences before, but we truly enjoyed Castle Lakes and intend to go back as often as we can!
