As a die hard Chicago Bear fan I just had to stop in the Packer Saloon in of all places Lake City Colorado. There was not a cheesehead in sight. But they had a nice selection of craft beers and a good variety of bratwurst (including Elk).

If you go eat here, order the Honey Bourbon wings. They cook their wings so different than anywhere in Texas. We had the wings several times during our week stay in Lake City. Lynn is really sweet.... Great service from Lynn and the food was great. We had burgers one day wings three times and the Chicken sammich

Because Lake City is a somewhat remote mountain town, you have to expect that prices will be a bit higher than normal, menus may be somewhat limited, and your choices of where to dine and type of cuisine will be limited. What you don't have to expect is crappy service, especially in the middle of tourist season. I've been to Lake City a few times and part of the charm is its small town ways and friendly people. Since my boyfriend's parents have a cabin in the area, we don't have to eat out for every meal, though we did on this particular night. In fact, we chose to get something to go and take it back to the cabin. Simple, right? After an 18 minute wait at a sparsely attended bar, we left the Packer Saloon in search of a place that did want our business. We told the first bartender who approached us that we wanted to place a to go order and he told us he'd be with us "in a minute". Well, that minute never came, but he managed to fill several other drink orders while we watched. Then, we were approached by a second bartender who told us, when we told her what we were doing hanging out at the bar sans drinks, that "that's not my thing". Her thing was apparently watching the large screen TV behind the bar and doing nothing else. We looked around for a hostess or manager-maybe we shouldn't have gone to the bar to order to go?-but there was no one. So after close to 20 minutes, we gave up and went to a place that numerous people told us served the best BBQ and burgers in town, The Sportsman:

I'm a vegetarian and had only wanted fries, which were quite tasty, but my boyfriend said the locals don't lie-this place served up a fantastic cheeseburger. And they took and filled our order in under 10 minutes. We weren't treated like we were invisible or insignificant. Highly recommend this place and as a good omen, it was PACKED when we were there-people were lining up to get inside and nobody seemed to mind the wait!

We've been told by several locals that the Packer Saloon has awful service, but we wanted to give it a chance, which was obviously our bad. We'll return to Lake City many, many times in the future but we'll never go back to the Packer Saloon. The Sportsman, however, made loyal customers of us with one great meal and awesome service.

We stopped twice over 4th of July week. This place was always busy. They did a great job of keeping our drinks filled and were very attentive for busy so busy. Nice selection of bottle and tap beer, with a full bar. Burgers are awesome and food is fresh and hot! Lots of items to choose from, they grill most everything. The patio is welcoming and a very nice place to relax and unwind. We very much enjoyed this place.
