“Think Twice on this one”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

this hotel has toruble handling busy times.. we found this out recently over New Years .. our room wasnt ready on check in and the front desk was going to call us when the room was ready - that never happened - we asked for 2 days in a row for a new humidifer , that was a chore in itself.. the bill was wrong - be sure to double check the bill on check -out.. and the front desk was far from helpful .. the worst of all -was medication we left in the room on the night table......... apparently too much work for anyone to call us .. the next hotel we went onto in Colorado went out of their way to help us with this - think twice on this one............ they need some serious work on their customer service and how to treat the paying customer

We recently stayed here for the first time during the week of New Years. It was our first time to visit Keystone. Upon our arrival, the valet service greeted us with open arms. I must say that these guys were among the best I've seen. Extremely courteous and helpful. We only used them one more time when we had to get our rental car upon checkout. They had our car heated and ready to use as promised. I think it's best to review this hotel by category so here it goes:

The Shuttle Service: Outstanding!!! Whenever you want to get the ski lifts, all you have to do is go outside and wait for the shuttle. If it wasn't there, they would radio the driver and ask when he would return. We never waited more than 5 minutes. The driver would immediately get out of the shuttle and open the door for us. Extremely courteous and helpful with restaurant recommendations and the like. When we were done skiing and wanted to get back to the resort, all we had to was ask a person at the Gondolla and he/she would radio the driver to come pick us up. We used this service at least 6 times per day. Getting back and forth from the village to the resort was the easiest thing ever. I can't say enough about this service.

Cleanliness of Room: This is the horrible part. The room itself was typical of what you would expect from a ski lodge. However, you wouldn't expect to turn down the covers and see BLOOD and PUBIC HAIR all over the sheets! There was even blood on the towels in the bathroom. We immediately went to the front desk and they had someone come to our room and change our sheets and towels. The girl who did it was excellent and very apologetic. She couldn't believe the day maid would overlook such a thing. It took her about an hour to clean the room and get it ready for us. Well, the next day, we noticed that although the room had been "cleaned", the glasses in the bathroom had merely been turned over without being replaced. We always put our toothbrushes in the provided glasses, so we know it was the same one. I made the mistake of drinking water from one of the glass water bottles they provide (filtered water). I still have the sores on my lip as a reminder. Whoever is in charge of the cleaning crew should be fired immediately. At the end of our stay, the manager did make things "right" by giving us a free night. However, the damage was already done and our first impressions were forever tainted.

The Restaurant/bar: Restaurant wasn't bad. A bit overpriced, but most hotel restaurants are. The bar was an intimate little place to relax after a long day of skiing. Again, a bit overpriced, but overall okay.

Concierge: I'll give the concierge pretty high marks since she was tasked of finding us an open table at a restaurant on New Year's Eve. Very helpful. She called every restaurant in town for us.

Spa: We used the spa one time for a couple's massage. Not bad, but certainly not the best. They need better staff who are trained in what areas of the body need the most work after skiing for 3 days straight. The spa staff at the reception area were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

Overall: I would probably stay at this hotel again, but only because of the extreme ease of getting back and forth to the ski village. Don't expect a 4 diamond resort and you'll be fine. Just check the sheets before turning off the lights. We're still grossed out by what we saw.

Drove up to Keystone (and I mean Up, elevation doubled from Denver) just to see the area. We weren't there to ski but there were things to do. Had a room on 6th floor which overlooked the mountains as well as the heated pool and hot tub. Several people were using both pools even though temperatures were in the teens & 20s. Staff extremely helpful and friendly.

My first visit to this Spa. One of the most relaxing spa experiences. I had an amazing facial and was quite impressed with my therapst's knowledge and techniques. We used the steam room before the facial and enjoyed the relaxation room afterwards with a glass of champagne. The staff was friendly and it was a great experience. Will definitely go back!

One of our friends was diagnosed with breast cancer so we wanted to treat her to a girls' weekend. We chose Keystone Lodge and Spa because of another friend's recommendation - especially for the spa. We made our spa appointments top priority on our list of things to do. Good thing as they were super busy. We had a wonderful time that weekend. The spa was the highlight of the trip. The Front Desk team were all friendly and welocoming. All of the therapists were excellent. I personally especially enjoyed meeting Sharon, the nail tech. She was beyond amazing with the service and provided an excellent guest experience for me. The rest of the hotel was an equally good experience from check in to the room, housekeeping etc.We will definitely be back! Tell all your friends to check out this spa when they come to Keystone! Kudos to the spa director for building a strong team and culture of service.

We stayed in the Lodge after Christmas for few days of skiing.
First we arrived rather late but there was no one available to help with our luggage.
We had to drag several suitcases and sleeping kids to our room through maize of the corridors to probably one of the most remote parts of the lodge.
Room was average with not enough storage, low ceiling but clean.
Low ceiling gives you rather not upscale sensation of staying in cheap motel.
Rooms with not enough storage, no fridge.
When you stay here you have to commute to the skiing area.
Hotel provides van shuttle. This is rather a joke.
They have 1 van that goes round trip between Nordic center and gondola,
on average every 20 minutes, if you lucky you can get in, since van takes only 12 people on board sometimes you have to wait for next one another 20 minutes.
Being squeezed in small van gives you a wonderful sensation of community almost like migrant farm workers commuting to job.
Pool and spa area is well kept with working sauna and steam room, nice but rather cold outdoor pool. I liked having option of indoor and outdoor jacuzzi.
Restaurants, good pizza place. Avoid steakhouse my kids ordered steak kebobs which were burned pieces of chewy meat with bbq sauce on top. Soggy oils saturated fries nicely enhanced the flavor. Service slow and rather not involved.
Overall so so experience. Given price of the room I think you will find much better options or just stay in motel and save yourself some money.
We are not coming back.

We stayed at the Keystone Lodge and Spa in December 2012 and were not overly happy with the resort...particularly the service of some staff and the shabby and outdated rooms. To begin, the rooms in the lodge were supposed to be somewhat nicer than the Inn but the room was nothing like pictured on the website. The heated barely worked and the washroom was very small.

Having two young children, they wake up rather early, so we called the spa desk to ask if the pool was open. They said they could remove the cover from the outdoor pool and that it would be ready in 20 minutes. We arrived to find that they had not removed the cover. The staff asked if we could wait 15 minutes for Maintenence to arrive to take the cover off and we agreed. Maintenence did show up for another 45 minutes and by that time we had informed the spa staff that we could not wait any longer as we had other activities planned. Staff were unappologetic about making us wait (likely they did not want to go out in the cold to remove the cover) and the spa manager never called to speak about the incident. The children were rather disappointed they did not get to swim in a heated outdoor pool.

With regards to activities, the ice skating rink was great (although rather expensive). The sleigh ride we had book a month prior was cancelled three hours before it began as they did not have a enough people signed up to make it financially viable. On top of that, the tubing hill was not open to children under 42 inches...we had to drive 20 minutes to Frisco to do that. One disappointment on top of another.

I would not recommend this resort and would definately not return.

Room Tip: Displeased with the rooms at the lodge and spa, very outdated, small washroom and heating issues.
