The Stube looks and bills itself like an Austrian alpine restaurant, at the top of Keystone's gondola. And with good service and top-quality food, it delivers. Their prix-fixe meals weren't too inspiring, but you could put together a very rewarding meal from the a la carte offerings. The food arrived quickly, was well-plated, and tasted good. Entrees are a mixture of European (even Austrian) inspired food and Intermountain West hearty cuisine. You're welcomed by the manager on arriving, and given a customized menu for your party, and warmly bid adeu afterwards. The wine list is complete but not super imaginative. However, the presentation and food quality doesn't quite measure up to the best restaurants in Denver or San Francisco (my former home and reference standard) and is still further from the best restaurants (often in great hotels) in Austria. Yet the price is similar, so you have to consider the location as part of the value: after all riding a Gondola to dinner and eating on the top of a mountain are memorable experiences. Though beware, the view people talk about is mostly from the area around the restaurant and not visible through its windows, which mostly look out on ski runs and forest. Service was prompt and friendly but didn't have the attentiveness and knowledgeable staff that you'd get in a great European restaurant. I will be back, but probably only with out of town visitors since places like Mizuna in Denver are closer and offer slightly better food for most special occasions. But, if you want a romantic experience with someone special and some great memories, this is definitely a good choice. Be careful in planning, they aren't open every day or even year-round.
