This ski area has a little bit of the reputation of being steep and for die hard skiers only. But there are some runs for everyone. The nearby rocky east wall makes it quite pretty. I hope they install one more lift in the future, hopefully a high speed one with good vertical drop.

Most importantly, they have very good instructors and their lessons are more affordable (keep in mind that the major Colorado resorts see lessons as a huge money maker, even if your kids - or yourself - end up in groups of 10).

The barbecue in the mountain cafeteria (not at the base) was really good food, and quite good value if you take a larger plate, esp. for a ski resort.

I don't think it is a place for an entire ski vacation (there is no lodging anyway), but it is definitely worth a trip if you are in the area.

After spending two days at Vail, this was a refreshing experience. Vail is great, however, A-Basin is for the true skier and boarder. Not about who has the most expensive ski coat or well-coifed hair, but about hardcore skiing at its best.I've skied here four times and conditions were always perfect.. If you are into no frills skiing, no resort atmosphere, great snow (until June) and friendly staff, don't miss this gem. If you want to show off your new skis, designer jackets and spend a lot of money, by all means go to Vail or Beaver Creek.

We stopped by A-Basin for the day, before heading to Breckenridge for a week. We ended up wishing we could stay longer at A-Basin. Our 9 and 12 year olds took the all-day snowboarding class and had a blast. Not only were the classes much less expensive than Breckenridge, the groups were smaller and the kids received much more attention. The 9 year old learned how to do an Ollie, and she thought " it was fun and easy!".

The resort is laid back, but still very customer friendly. People are able to back their vehicles right up to the slopes in the "beach" area and tailgate. They bring their grills and dogs, little kids sled, and everyone has a great time.

The A frame lodge at the base of the slope is a great place to watch all the action. The food was far better than that at the Breckenridge on-slope eateries and less expensive. The bowl of noodles was bigger than I could eat.

This post is not to bash Breckenridge--it's a great resort with many more slopes and amenities, but for my family, A-Basin was really great.

The only downside to A-Basin is the lack of on-slope accommodations. For our next visit I will definitely look into staying nearby at Keystone and splitting our time between A-Basin and Keystone.

Like the fact that A-Basin has something for everyone. We had an excellent day of skiing there and enjoyed a lunch that was the best of the week--Curry shrimp & Tofu with veggies and jasmine rice.

We traveled with 8 kids and 6 adults, everybody enjoyed the sky school and the facilities. The kids had excellent instructors and by the end of the first day were doing really good. The adults had a blast and were going on the greens by the first day. We also had a nice surprise when they told us that we overpaid when we booked on line and gave us a refund.
