There is nothing fancy about Ranga's Beach Hut except the people. Ranga and his staff are the most amazing. Had 10 great days here last year and already booking to stay again this June.

Room Tip: They have a couple o tree houses which are pretty cool!

I went for lunch with 14 others to ranga's beach hut on 11th of april 2012 ( The Tsunami warning day). As soon as the Tsunami warning came Ranga asked us to leave immediately to a safe place even when the prepared lunch was there for us. But due to the rush I left my Digital camera on a table and went off.
I came only on the next morning and asked them regarding it. Ranga said that it was with them safely and handed it over to me.
what a honest people we find here at Beach hut.
As a Sri lankan I am proud of these honest citizens of ours.
Thanks a lot Beach hut.

Arrived off the bus, in the rain and had the best coffee in sri lanka here (ask for the real expresso) and warming banana porridge.

We had "normal room 2", a wooden hut on two floors with the sleeping area upstairs. Lovely views of the greenery surrounding the rooms and good air circulation inside. Can feel a bit public though, with one window that has no curtain and with all the many windows open you're visible from the paths. Cheap enough at Rs1200 but the beds were not the cleanest we had and my partner thought she may have got bedbugs from here (although I think it was more like tiny ants - those quick-moving b*****ds that can hide in your luggage).

Food was top-notch, possibly the best we'd had in SL and there was a really nice atmosphere at night with improvised lanterns/burners made from old teapots and local families lining up to wash hands at the sink. People came here from other guest houses for food. I met some interesting people at tables here and found the staff friendly.

Room Tip: the rooms are in two places 1. 100 metres away from reception, by the beach in amongst casuarina tre...

i was in off season,
so the price are very cheaper around 1000roupies a room,
it's paradise, you have your own hut jsut in front of the beach, big trees, 2 part, one close from the maindesk/resto/bar and other front of the beach. i think part in front of the beach is the best.
you have some table and chair, to read book or eat under the trees when the sun is too warm on the beach, just 10sec walk !

I fell in love immediately with the little tree house I stayed in. Everything is very simple, but clean and very charming. I was in Arugam Bay during off season, so half the village was closed and you got the impression Beach Hut was THE place where everybody went. They have a huge wooden table where everybody met up. Every evening there was another dinner cooked for us, and the whole atmosphere was just really good. Best time on Sri Lanka I had there!

This is a great place for drinks and good food. The owner ranga is really a friendly and flexible person. The rice portions are big so beware when you order for all people. the food is bit expensive compared to Colombo prices (All restaurants have high prices in arugambay)but this places is OK compared to the prices of other places. Beach Hut, great value for money.

Great place to Eat !!

Leave your stress on the bus and be taken care of at the Beach Hut - you'll end up here, so you might as well start out here!
Everything you need, plus more you might want, plus more you hadn't thought of... warm and sociable atmosphere, beautiful people, great food, romantic cabana, and lots to see within a tuktuk ride. Elephants, temples, crazy rocks, and beaches after beaches. A fortnight is good. Oh and there's surf too... not for the pernickety, but fantastic for the rest of us!

Room Tip: Beachfront to catch the breeze and hammock
