Colorado hospitality at its finest. Innkeeper Sam is very gracious and responsive. We arrived very late for our six night stay, and Sam just gave us the keys to King Suites 5 & 6 and said that we could register in the morning......great start for tired travelers. His maintenance men, Billie and Davie, are equally hospitable and friendly, and the housekeepers are polite and efficient. A side note, Billie (Bill Hitz) is an ward winning wildlife photographer, and we bought a book of his splendid published works. The rooms are very clean and tastefully decorated, and adequately spacious with a kitchenette and dining nook. The king beds are very comfortable. There is a nice deck right outside rooms 5 & 6, perfect for sipping your morning beverage in the cool mountain air as you soak up the pleasant ambiance. Idaho Springs is a great base location with easy access to roads that take you to Mt. Evans, Winter Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, Georgetown and Silver Plume, Central City, and all the ski villages on the other side of the Eisenhower tunnel. The inn is a terrific value for the price. We will stay there again!

Used this hotel as a "base camp" for a 5 day motorcycle trip around CO. Sam the owner did everything in his power to make our trip a success. If you're familar with "mom and pop" hotels in the Rockies, you know they can be quite scary. The Clumbine was clean and comfortable. If you're active and plan on being gone all day with nearby activites such as rafting, hiking, skiing and just need a place to throwdown at the end of a long day, this is it. If you want to sit around in your room you'll be dissappointed. No ice machine or other vending which is ok if you're willing to walk a 100 yards to the Safeway around the corner. The walk to the uptown restruarants was a pleasant experience and a good way to unwind. Call Sam. He's truly an inn keeper who looks after his guests.

Room Tip: open the window and let the cool air in. Great sleeping!

This is our "go-to" stay in Idaho Springs. We have stayed here several times and found that it is a far better value than the larger on-the creek chain-type motel not far away. Columbine is not on the creek, but the proprietor works hard to keep the place clean and take care of his guests. we have tried a couple of other places, but always wind up returning here. We start or end our Colorado trips and vacations here often. We recommend this place without hesitation.

Choose this place based on rewiews. Yes, very helpful staff! Kinda funky with mixed art on the walls (Asian, modern, and native American). I felt they were lacking a welcome card, book, sheet of paper.....? Giving information in wifi, parking politeness (next door guest left early with no less than 10 door open and closings....and the were parked right outside??? Otherwise it was nice for Idaho Springs.

I reserved this hotel because of the great reviews, it didn't disappoint. It definitely was the nicest hotel in Idaho Springs. The hotel owner was very friendly and inviting and he gave us great dinner ideas. Our room had a microwave and a fridge. The beds were clean and super comfortable. The whole room was clean and comfortable but on the small side, although we didn't need much more. The bathrooms were clean with great water pressure. I think we got our first real good night of sleep after being on the road for a week.

Columbine Inn has its own special charm. The owners try to make each room unique; the decor is definitely eclectic. Rooms are small, however, and (as another reviewer indicated) the curtains definitely need replacing. Beds are comfortable; linens are worn but clean. Shower is good, and the small kitchenette is a plus. Rooms are not cleaned daily. We stayed two nights, and the "maid service" consisted of someone asking if we wanted clean towels or if we wanted to empty our trash. There is a nice outdoor patio, where guests can enjoy the cool evenings. Tables could use a good cleaning, though.

We tried to get some ice at 9:30 a.m. on the morning that we left, but the owner abruptly told my husband that the office was closed. We thought this was a bit unusual for a morning time when many people were in the process of checking out. But...the owners gave us some great information about places to eat in Idaho Springs. We followed their suggestions and were definitely pleased with their recommendations.

Also - don't miss Two Brothers' Deli for awesome breakfasts!

Great (very small) clean rooms, some with teeny kitchenettes. Eclectic decor. Comfy beds, decent showers. Except (owners please take note) the curtains are nasty. There's a hot tub but it wasn't nice enough or hot enough to bother with. Great location on main street in town, tho set just slightly off the road with enough trees & grass to feel out of the traffic. Owners were nice enough but very abrupt, both on the phone & in person; no time to ask about local eateries, attractions etc. A bit pricey (no coffee, breakfast etc) but we'd stay here again.
