Good food and service! The different pizzas are fantastic. So is the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Ribs are excellent. Priced a little higher than you might expect, but worth it.

We have lived in some amazing restaurant locales, including the Bay Area and Boulder, CO, and PJ's is up there with the very best in New American Cuisine. His technique is superb, his presentation is divine, and he takes full advantage of the abundance of organic and artisanal ingredients available in the North Fork Valley, including local organic and biodynamic wines. Hotchkiss is not far from Grand Junction, and PJ's is definitely a destination restaurant. Go!

Having dinner with the mayor, the mayor pro tem and some locals is a treat in itself, but having that dinner at PJ's is beyond what I would expect anywhere - even in San Francisco, New Orleans or Chicago. This place oozes charm and history. The chef/owner, Peter Knapp, is often out mingling with customers, and of course, when you're having dinner with the Mayor, you can be sure that he will srop by to make sure everything is perfect, which it certainly was. I tried the special of the evening, a Basque Beef stew. It came served over wonderful mashed potatoes, and had been braised, making the beef flavorful, moist and incredibly tender. Add a glass of local cabernet and dinner was a wonderful experience. I happened to be there on a Wednesday evening, which is ladie's night, meaning my glass of wine was complimentary. This is a real locals hang-out, the Mayor knew everyone in the joint (hallmark of a good mayor, BTW), as did Chef Peter. They all said I had to come back for the 4th Thursday sushi night. That is an event that every local anticipates and both sittings regularly sell out! Chef Peter has the sushi flown in fresh that day, and having plenty of experience as a sushi chef (he was a partner in Hama in Venice Beach and opened another Hama on the shores of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee), he knows how to make the best sushi around - you know it's good when all the foodies from the Roaring Fork Valley (Aspen) drive over McClure Pass to get there on the 4th Thursday! This is a small restaurant, but the ambience is wonderful and the food is better than what you can find in many of the food capitals of the world! Check it out, it won't cost an arm and a leg, and you'll probably get to chat with the guy who made your food fresh and wonderful!

Finally, Great food in Hotchkiss. Fantastic menu selection, reasonable prices and super staff. The inside is very pleasent and a great place to take family and friends. The owner knows his food and makes great presentation of entries. A well choice at the bar makes this a perfect stop to eat.

Valentine's Dinner was our second visit to PJ's in Hotchkiss, CO, and this new restaurant is very nice addition to the dining scene on the western slope. We were greeted by the very amiable hostess, Ashley, and escorted to our table. The dinner for Valentine's was prix fix, and began with champagne. Two in our party opted for wine instead, and the wine was excellent (as was the champagne according to my wife). Next up was a crab rangoon which was very good, especially considering there is outlet for fresh seafood here. The salad was excellent as well.

The entree was - shall we say - magnificent. Steak and shrimp (or surf and turf) was lauded by all at our table. The steaks were well seasoned and cooked just to order (even my wife was happy with hers and she thinks no one can cook a steak but her husband). The shrimp were well seasoned with a bit of "bite" which suited us since we hail from the Gulf Coast. The entree was accompanied by green beans almondine.

The desert was just right after such a heavy meal, a chocolate tart with chocolate mousse and surrounded by wonderful fruit. Just right!

Peter, the chef, was very attentive, as were the wait staff. Peter came out twice to check on us and our food.

The total for the meal (including the champagne but not the wine substitute) was $45 which I found very reasonable for the occasion and the quality of the food.

We will be back!
